So these are obviously ridiculous, but also my inner crime scientist *really* wishes I could run a proper randomised evaluation on these things because... I suspect they do a decent job reducing shoplifting?

Does look like £3.50 is the transition between secure and non-secure chocolate too. I guess you optimise by stealing the lower price ones?
In a more dark version, maybe this is Tesco trying to get everyone to online order their groceries. They could cover a lot more area with their shops that way. (I have the sneaking suspicion that one of the local supermarkets is doing this by having constant stacking trolleys in the now reduced width aisle.)
