PNG is lossless but BIG.

@woo @thomasfuchs Many of my oldest TIFFs (early 1990s) now open with an opaque alpha layer. They do still open and work though.

PDFs so far are all over the place. I’d be hard pressed to call it a standard format. Yet. It’s also not an image format. It’s a printer format that embeds images, so please no.

I would also go with TIFF but also make a PNG and JPG for archiving photos. Since they are grayscale, I would also print them again on archival paper.

@jbm @thomasfuchs I'm very old. Vinyl and CDs 'are my jam', as the hip cats say. I (my son actually) used MP3 then moved to FLAC on a Cowan player when FOSS picked it.
