RKWard<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RKWard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RKWard</span></a> 0.8.0 is officially available for download, today. You can read up on the details, and pick the correct download for your platform on <a href="https://rkward.kde.org" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">rkward.kde.org</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>, as usual. Thanks to all contributors!</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a></p>
RKWard<p>regarding the plugin: please ignore the outlined way of installation via RKWards dialog in the README for the time being. this won&#39;t work until the package was tested and available from CRAN or RKWard&#39;s repository.</p><p>try installation via devtools instead:</p><p>devtools::install_github(&quot;rkward-community/rk.downloadAppImage&quot;)</p>
RKWard<p>in case you are testing the CI builds of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RKWard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RKWard</span></a> AppImages, you can now call `rk.download_appimage()` to update your current image with the most recent one. add the `overwrite=TRUE` (or `o=T`) argument to actually replace the file. see `?rk.download_appimage` for more options. if RKWard doesn&#39;t find that function, your <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/AppImage" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AppImage</span></a> is too old:</p><p><a href="https://cdn.kde.org/ci-builds/education/rkward/master/linux/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">cdn.kde.org/ci-builds/educatio</span><span class="invisible">n/rkward/master/linux/</span></a></p><p>there&#39;s now also an experimental RKWard plugin you can test:</p><p><a href="https://github.com/rkward-community/rk.downloadAppImage" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/rkward-community/rk</span><span class="invisible">.downloadAppImage</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a></p>
RKWard<p>here&#39;s another hint to a very simple, but potentially powerful feature that <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RKWard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RKWard</span></a> has for quite a while (available in current stable releases): in the bottom right menu, you can restart the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/R" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>R</span></a> session without restarting the whole application. this will remove all objects from your workspace and unload all packages, while leaving all editor tabs etc. untouched.</p><p>do the final run of your scripts in a vanilla environment. also especially helpful for <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a> package development.</p>
RKWard
RKWard<p>this feature can be tested using the development AppImage of RKWard:</p><p><a href="https://cdn.kde.org/ci-builds/education/rkward/master/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">cdn.kde.org/ci-builds/educatio</span><span class="invisible">n/rkward/master/</span></a></p><p>these are automatic builds from the bleeding edge git branch, i.e. not stable releases! that said, testers and their feedback are welcome, especially for the windows and macOS packages.</p><p>try the preview by opening a markdown file and selecting &quot;R Markdown (auto)&quot; from the &quot;preview&quot; menu that is visible when the markdown editor is active.</p>
RKWard<p>another new feature is the possibility to select the R engine to use. this is especially useful if RKWard was installed as an <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/AppImage" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AppImage</span></a> which comes bundled with an R installation, but you might prefer to keep using the version of R that is already installed on your system and all of its installed packages. a setup wizard automatically checks this each time a new/updated version of RKWard is started for the first time. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a></p>
RKWard<p>RKWard is getting a very useful feature: the live preview of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RMarkdown" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RMarkdown</span></a> files, that previously was limited to HTML documents, can now render any output format, including package vignettes, but also PDF formats like beamer presentations or even custom formats. formats that RKWard can&#39;t show itself are offered to be opened in the system defined application. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a></p>
RKWard<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RKWard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RKWard</span></a> just gained a new <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/R" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>R</span></a> function, rk.select.file(). it combines the functionality of file.select() and more importantly, utils::choose.dir() which is only available in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a> for <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>windows</span></a>. it opens a file system browser so you can select a file or directory, and returns the selected path. there&#39;s a wrapper rk.choose.dir() which only accepts directories.</p>
RKWard<p>anyone else experiencing problems when trying to install r-base-core from CRAN debian packages for ubuntu jammy together with r-cran-tibble from the C2D4U repo also for jammy?</p>
RKWard<p>version 0.11-1 of our simple XML parser/generator <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a> package XiMpLe is now available on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/CRAN" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CRAN</span></a>. it fixes some old parsing issues, but also greatly improves generating XML (i.e., HTML) projects from scratch. the new function `gen_tag_functions()` creates useful wrappers to quickly write down XML tree structures.</p><p>check out the vignette for an overview: <a href="https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/XiMpLe/vignettes/XiMpLe_vignette.html#less-typing-with-wrappers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">cran.r-project.org/web/package</span><span class="invisible">s/XiMpLe/vignettes/XiMpLe_vignette.html#less-typing-with-wrappers</span></a></p>
