Since I'm planning to "daily drive"* my #postmarketOS Phosh #Pinephone soon(ish)**, I wonder if I shouldn't switch from edge to Stable.

*I find the "daily driver" expression utterly silly, but I haven't found a succinct alternate expression...

** Not done yet because I'm lazy.

@normandc @postmarketOS if you want to just update your phone without thinking about breakage then yes, use stable

If you prefer getting the latest features as soon as possible, are fine with occasional breakage (read https://postmarketos.org/edge before doing updates), ideally want to help out with fixing stuff when it breaks, then stay on the edge.

That's the thing, I'm conflicted and can't make up my mind

I do like getting new stuff early. On the other hand, if a new update in the stable channel is planned for December...

That's rather vague, isn't it? To me, the "daily driver" expression means that you use the device daily as your actual phone, with SIM card. "Personal key usecases" can mean anything, and not even include actually using the device to make phone calls.

I guess I could say "my phone-call-making device". Granted, not really shorter.

Depends on your use case, really. I get far more calls over #Wire / #Matrix using wifi than I do via a SIM card. When people ask if the #PinePhone is "daily driver ready" I take it to mean that they could use it as their primary device for whatever it is they normally use their primary device for, which, lets face it, no one else knows what that actually is... Maybe most people *are* thinking mainly traditional phone calls though. No idea...

I forget that younger generations hardly make voice calls. They prefer texting.

I make tons of calls. They're just generally over wifi with an app. I'm not about to call family overseas (or even locally) on some outdated technology with zero encryption, bad quality sound and no video that charges me, often by the minute... ewww....

Well, for me a phone's main purpose is to make phone calls. Call me old school.

Otherwise, seriously, why call it a phone?

Isn't "phone" one of those recursive acronyms that freedom beard types are so fond of, ie PHOsh Never Existed (before)? With Phosh of course standing for PHONE SHell.
