It's time #Mastodon supported multiple domain names per instance, allowing the users to use their own domain name for identity.
The issue has been open for 7+ years now: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/2668
@nilesh this! It would be sooo helpful
@nilesh please do!
@nilesh I'd love to be able to change my domain without creating a new instance!
@nilesh My case for better split-domain compatibility throughout the fediverse is @canary, if you'd like something comprehensive to link people to: https://correct.webfinger-canary.fietkau.software
Mastodon is actually further along this path than many other projects, but its legacy of using handles as persistent account identifiers instead of ActivityPub IDs is also holding the ecosystem back. @takahe remains the gold standard.
@iron_bug I don't understand what you are trying to say.
Takahe supports multiple domains per instance: https://github.com/jointakahe/takahe but Mastodon still does not.
