Public Service Announcement:
Transferring 20TB of data over a network is SLOOOOOOOWWWWWWW.....
That is all.
@mike I mean...how fast is the network link? Don't leave us hanging!
@lns It's all internal LAN. Gigabit ethernet.
@mike fiber when
@s31bz It's just on my LAN. Gigabit ethernet, but still..... slow......
@mike Just did this with 33TB from an old NAS to its replacement. Gigabit seems fast until you need to transfer tens of terabytes hehe. Had two 4U servers stacked on top of each other in the living room for a week.
@mort That's exactly what I'm doing actually. Transferring from one to what will be taking its place. Don't have servers stacked in my living room. My kids would be using it to pile their Coke cans on. I'm not willing to risk that.
@mike Faster than transferring it to an SMR hard drive! Don't ask me how I know. Please, don't.
@mike Well you know the Tanenbaum quote, "Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway." ;)
