v:dw is by far the most useful acronym I've run across recently, much more relevant than tl;dr.
video: didn't watch.
@kly I'm gonna nick that one. Love it!
@kly I like tv;dw (too video; didn't watch) for the symmetry with the original and allusion to television (which I also don't watch)
@mirabilos @ilmari @kly @static "that/the video; didn't watch".
But I would prefer:
dv;dw (damn video)
wtfhtfav;dw (who the fuck has time for a video?)
fv;dw
@mirabilos @ilmari @kly @static I have to admit that there are a few topics where a video helps--mostly having to do with UI interaction in one sense or another. But I still don't want to watch them.
@marshall_0i @mirabilos @ilmari @kly Well, yes. Some things do need a video and in that case I'll go look a video. But not every thing needs a video.
@marshall_0i @ilmari @kly @static oooooh, me like!
I’ll put these into my acronyms database (with the next batch commit).
@kly have to be honest, I saw that and my first thought was “is that a Vim command string?”
@bearpupuk @kly I’m glad it’s not just me.
@kly I will not watch your video.
I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
@kly I like that one. Other than YouTube views I don’t understand this whole “make everything a video” thing. Especially coding, where people have to pause the video to think, copy, whatever.
@kly p:dl
Podcast: didn't listen
@billseitz @kly
proper podcasts have transcriptions published alongside them,
so you can tldr them as well
@kly video: too long didn’t watch
Seriously not interested in hearing your banter with viewers for a training video. Cut to the chase.
@kly you know, something that actually could transcribe videos whilst saving the important pictures (or video clips) would actually be a really excellent use of LLMs.
@kly So glad someone came up with "v:dw = video: didn't watch," the shorthand I needed for one of my longtime pet peeves.
I now offer: "YT:dw = YouTube, didn't watch."
@jstatepost @kly too platform-specific (also, the colon ought to be a semicolon)
@mirabilos @kly Thank YOU, Mirabilos; I needed to get that message from you in order to see it.
You are correct, of course. TKS.
@kly yeah, I hate learning things via video. Give me text instructions with pix any day…
@cordeliane @kly searchable! Also readable with just the text! Translatable!
@kly Yes! Also, pc;dl: “Podcast, didn’t listen.”
@kly I'll definitely be using that one
@kly Goes well with pc;dl for podcasts
@kly av;db (audiovisual content, didn't bother)
@kly just finding out what tl:dr stands for. I always thought it was something cooler than not reading a long thing
@kly@fosstodon.org where are you hanging out that you see this weirdness?
@kly oh but I must remember this one!
@kly I propose pd:dl (podcast: didn’t listen)
