Remember graphics (aka DRM) drivers like r128, i810, mga, savage, sis, tdfx, and via? They are still in the , but now slated for removal in 6.3 through patches that today made it to linux-next:

@kernellogger so with DRM driver removed my Matrox G550 will be dust gatherer even more.

It was nice card during PCI Express bring up on aarch64 architecture.

Only 16MB ram so no BAR issues, pcie to pci bridge on card so one more thing to take care of and dual DVI output.

@hrw yeah, hw like that can be really useful for situations like that. Maybe try to find a card that's supported through the mgag200 driver (or would it even be possible & easy to add support for the G550 there?), I guess that one won't be removed any time soon…

@kernellogger last time I used it years ago. Now it sits in box with misc pci/pcie cards.

@hrw @kernellogger maybe Thomas Zimmermann who maintains the mgag200 driver may be interested in that HW and extend the driver to support it ?

@javierm @kernellogger I think that the only Matrox hardware worth caring at all is mgag200 one because it is built-in in many servers.

Nowadays AST2500 took it's place.

@hrw @kernellogger yeah, that's why he maintains that drivers I believe. And same for the drivers/gpu/drm/ast/

@kernellogger Fortunately we still have the corresponding fbdev drivers...

However, people are trying to get rid of them, under the premise that we do have DRM drivers for the same hardware. See e.g.
