I consider it a failure of Wikipedia that there's no List of Prominent Russians Who Met Their End Falling From a Hotel Window.
Yes, I looked. I was curious about the timeline.
@jgamble Less specific than just "defenestration" but what about this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Russian_businessmen_mystery_deaths
It's both less specific and more specific, since it doesn't include people who aren't businessmen, like journalists.
(I was actually serious about the lack of information.)
@jgamble good point. It is truly appalling that such lists exist, or should exist. BTW I saw that Wiki page mentioned in a thread on this topic on Reddit the other day.
@jgamble <Nods> There really should be one.
@jgamble you could start one…
You understand that there was a reason I was *looking it up*, right?
@jgamble I know there have been many. Did you have some other reason in mind?
As I said in the initial post, I was curious about the timeline. Professions of the people murdered was also of interest.
@jgamble If you think Wikipedia should have it and it doesn't exist it would take all of one minute to create a page and post the first entry.
@samueljohnson
You understand that there was a reason I was *looking it up*, right?
@jgamble Saying it was a "failure of Wikipedia" when you could create and edit a page almost as easily as posting here doesn't seem particularly useful. Better to strike a light than curse the darkness, right?
Just stop. The page doesn't exist. I don't have the information to create the page.
Also, irony is a thing.
@jgamble Wikipedia is a wiki. It's not necessary for a page to have ANY of its intended future content. Such a page is called a stub and is open to edits by all Wikipedia users. All pages begin with a first edit.
Yes, thank you for explaining something we all know.
I'm getting a coin to flip now. Let's see if you're blocked for being Reply Guy.
It's not specific to businessmen either. Of particular interest are journalists. But the death by defenestration cases are numerous and unusual enough that I think it deserves its own category.
@jgamble https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Autodefenestration&redirect=no does exist which is what these are claimed to be
@ladaux @jgamble There is enough of a history of similar episodes that this has in fact got it's own technical term ("defenestration"), and multiple lists, although the category "modern Russian defenestrations", or perhaps "defenestrations during the RussiaUkraine conflict" may need to be added separately...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Deaths_by_defenestration
@jgamble
“In the news today Russian oligarch lives to 95. We ask how. He says simply…one story mansion, no windows or doorknobs, I don’t go out when it rains, and I don’t drink tea. The bastards stopped trying after 1977…”
@jgamble But you can create it, and others can add to it.
Just have to find a good name for the page.
