One of two 19th century hunting skiffs I've built, with plans from the Smithsonian ($15, if you mail a check and a letter asking for them).
Design evolved on Chesapeake and Barnegat Bays, to hold a man, a dog, and some decoys for hunting on shallow water in winter, when there was no farming income.
They would stay out for days, sleeping in the boa, in freezing conditions. Then sail across the bay and sell to restaurants in Baltimore and DC.
@eyeinhand Have you sailed it? How does it handle?
They're just lovely to sail. Will slip along in just a breath of wind, and stand up to a pretty good glow.
