Going through my photos from last October, I wondered if I could get this last long exposure of C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) over the Grand Canyon to popout of the horizonal haze by doing a little dodging and burning. The star trails are a little disappointing. I should have bumped up the ISO a bit, but I thought I wouldn't be using this photo given the comet was so buried in the haze.

The comet's tail extends out from the small point of light to about the 11 o'clock position. There's a few clouds in the sky and the stars are short streaks of light due to the long exposure. The rim of the canyon begins at about center frame. The canyon;s features are visible thanks to moonlight. There's lots of crags, points, mesas, and a deep ravine where the Colorado River flows, but the river is not visible in the shadows.

@elaterite Great capture. The horizontal split between the canyons and sky almost looks like a dual image too, as if the top could be something like a Fourier transform of the lower half. And those clouds are marvellous.

@elaterite Stunning image in black and white. Nothing to be added, nothing to be substracted. Love the clouds in the sky, it gives some texture. Love the stars and the trail from the comet.
