My first post here on Mastodon! So this is my . I'm so done with Twitter. Ugh. Anyway, I'm Bob, and I'm a photographer & a fine art framer living in Reno, Nevada (USA). I've been running Linux since the late '90s. I started with SuSE Linux 6.0 in 1998! All photos are mine & edited using Darktable on a Linux box. Here's a photo I made of Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe, Nevada in 2017.

@elaterite Welcome aboard. Happy to hear you are using open source for long.

@elaterite What an amazing shot! I need to take time to learn Darktable. Do you think it is as good as Lightroom? (Not that I have used that either.) 😀

@elaterite Beautiful! Happy to follow you and get you going! Welcome!

@elaterite Welcome, Bob!

That's a gorgeous shot. Looking forward to seeing more of your views of the Reno area.

@elaterite Well hello there good buddy! I do approve of the federated server model here but I have not found the EV communities I would want to join that would let me drop Facebook. I never was much of a twitterer but I think I may become one as it evolves into a content platform to rival YouTube with more support for the struggling artists who create good content rather than the clickbait YouTube virtually insists upon. We shall see …

@elaterite Welcome to Mastodon Bob from another Mastodon newbie!

@elaterite Welcome from a fellow (well, female actually) Linux lover. Gorgeous photo.

@elaterite Welcome, Bob. You will find a lot of creative people here, including photographers and visual artists of all kinds. And a lot of other interesting folks. You will also find Mastodon is different from Twitter in so me basic ways, and that it is more focused on small group conversations rather than broadcasting to massive audiences.

To find people and discussíns that interest you, search hashtags. That is a basic tool here.

@elaterite Before I’m going to sleep.. greetings to you.. awesome to have you here☺️🙏

@elaterite
I was once told that you know it is time to leave Reno when all you remember about breakfast at the topless pancake place is that the waitress forgot your maple syrup.

@elaterite @jcmacomber That’s a stunning photo Bob! ….. and welcome to Mastodon!

@elaterite beautiful!

Welcome to Mastodon!

Big fan of open source myself.
Slackware 1.2 for me. Right about when they got the windows 95 long file name support 😅

Nikon D610 but rarely do RAW. Mostly use gimp. Sometimes DC Raw. Would like to learn about dark table.

I also use a lot of kdenlive for video and Blender for 3D sims and anims (super fun)

@elaterite Welcome! Looking forward to more gorgeous photos.

@elaterite That photo is gorgeous! What a nice addition to Mastodon. Thank you and welcome.

@elaterite good morning, Bob. I love your photo's especially of the mustangs.

@elaterite Welcome to Mastodon. I love it here and hope you will too. Thanks for sharing your photo. 😁

@elaterite

Welcome to the party Bob. Have a great Christmas.

@elaterite
wonderful light for that photo, Bob 🖌️

@elaterite Welcome to Mastodon. I hope U will enjoy it here. Lots of interesting people here these days. Love the photo.

@elaterite Wow. This is so beautiful and serene. ❤️

@elaterite The colors and mood captured of your photo of Bonsai Rock in Lake Tahoe is gorgeous!

@elaterite I've only used GIMP and Inkscape for photo editing so far. Darktable does look interesting, might give it a go. Thanks for sharing!

@elaterite Welcome to Mastodon! I’ve only been here since November but I’m liking it. Seems a little barren at first but once you follow a few folks, & hashtags, it’ll become more lively.

@elaterite

I too an an enthusiastic photographer but I do mainly wildlife especially butterflies.

This one of my favourites:

@elaterite Lovely photo! I love the fact you added some alt-text too!
I'm a FreeBSD user. ;)

Welcome to Mastodon!

@elaterite

Welcome to the Fediverse. We all love photos here. Hopefully you will find plenty to enjoy here as well.

@elaterite this is an amazing shot. Love that glass-like look to the lake. How big is that rock? Cause it looks like the perspective is making it really big but then I look at the trees(?) on the rock and I'm thinking its even bigger than I first thought.
