@rtwx Yes, basic personal IT security measures need to be taught to everyone. I'd put them in the school curriculum, then repeat them at universities and then again at companies, unless newly-hired employees complete a test about them successfully.

Alas it's one of those things that only get any attention when it's too late.

I seem to remember a German friend, working at a local authority, had to complete an "Internet driving test" before being allowed to correspond with the public. I can't remember what the test was really called.

@fitheach It might even actually have been called "Internetführerschein". We had that at our school in Germany for those who wanted to use school computers to use the internet (yes, that was back when most of us didn't have internet at home 😀), though I don't think it included things like URL structure back then.

Found it. I had to go back to 2005 in my email archive (I have one of those).

The test was called ECDL: European Computer Driving Licence

The organisation still exists:

We had *a* computer at school.
It used punched cards.
