I'm trying to revive a piece of lab equipment. It has a 250V glass line fuse that blows when switched on.
The sticker says it runs 200W, 120V, and 2.5 amps. Is this either because the fuse is too small for the power use or an indicator that there's a short somewhere in the controls?
@brianb there's probably a short somewhere, check continuity with your multimeter between the voltage rails, and look for any bulging capacitors
@brianb Fuse rating and type (slow/fast) is typically stated on the case or in the manual. If the fuse is correct size then there is probably a failed component inside. Check how the power supply capacitors look. Start with the biggest one, the closest to the supply input. They often fail short. Desolder and check with a multimeter.
It would help if you open the case and post the pictures of internals.
@owiecc @fartnuggets Thanks, both. It's an old lab incubator from a company that still exists. I found similar models yesterday while searching for manuals, so I wrote them asking if they had a manual for this particular model. We'll see what they come back with.
