I think dmr or ken said something along the lines of "if I could redesign Unix, the first thing I would change is creat to create."

Interesting. I use Linux every day and I hadn't heard of that.

@tedu I don’t remember the quote very clearly so I’m probably wrong about the details.

@alexbuzzbee the context was somebody asked Thomson what he'd do differently, and he said, spell it create. the subtext was he wouldn't change anything else.

I, too have never heard of "creat", though I see it in the output of "apt-cache search creat":

creat (2) - open and possibly create a file

I usually use "touch" for creating new, empty files.
