Minty95 :archlinux:<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Grub" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Grub</span></a> or not to grub ?</p><p>I realised that the new <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fedora</span></a> installation that I did a couple of days ago was using grub. Although not a problem or a big deal. I booted into the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/bios" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>bios</span></a> changed the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/legacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>legacy</span></a> setting to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/uEFI" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>uEFI</span></a> Win7. (Yes it&#39;s an old <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/motherboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>motherboard</span></a> only giving Legacy, uEFI win7 or uEFI win8 as choices). Rebooted from the USB and ran a clean install again. Now it&#39;s with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/systemd" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>systemd</span></a>. Did it change anything? no, but it was fun to do.</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>I use <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>arch</span></a> as my main PC, &amp; <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Debian</span></a> for my server <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> , <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Homeassistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Homeassistant</span></a> etc. Having another PC not doing anything, thought I&#39;d try either <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/suse" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>suse</span></a> or <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fedora</span></a>, just to &#39;play&#39; &amp; learn more. I don&#39;t program or play games. It&#39;s just to keep me in the know of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>linux</span></a> </p><p>Installed Suse, installer crap so that didn&#39;t last long, then tried fedora, installer very clean and pro, was nicely surprised, so now learning fedora. Like arch in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/XFCE" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>XFCE</span></a> as I don&#39;t like <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Gnome</span></a> or <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/kde" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>kde</span></a>, I&#39;m to old school, I think</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>I love using <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Linux</span></a>, but sometimes it can be a right pain in the ass, Having installed <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fedora</span></a> on a third PC at home, I just wanted to share a folder to drop some files from my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>arch</span></a> set up to it. Create a shared folder I said to my self, but after more than ten minutes trying to do a <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/smb" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>smb</span></a> shared folder with no luck. I gave up and just used <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/filezilla" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>filezilla</span></a>, got that working in about one minute 👍sharing a folder in Linux, over complicated, grrrr 😱</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>I&#39;ve said it before and I&#39;ll say it again. I do like the AI on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Strava" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Strava</span></a>, especially when it gives you a really good report like this. Bike ride done this morning. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/biking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>biking</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Velo" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Velo</span></a></p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>This weekend I managed to get <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> up and running with https access. I also managed to get <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HomeAssistant</span></a> and <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MQTT" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MQTT</span></a> running on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/truenas" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>truenas</span></a> scale but <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ZigBeeMQTT" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ZigBeeMQTT</span></a> is impossible, just impossible to get it to run and I need it. A real pain. So I reckon it&#39;s time to go back to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Debian</span></a> and do a headless setup running <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ZFS" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ZFS</span></a> for the data. Truenas looks nice but has very little, often nothing or that&#39;s up to date to help with it. Debian just works and there is always up to date help if need be.</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>Second session <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Hyrox" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Hyrox</span></a> this morning, similar to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/CrossFit" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CrossFit</span></a> that I do regularly, but boy does it work my cardio. I love it. Keeping fit even though I&#39;m getting on a bit <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fitness" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fitness</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/keepingfit" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>keepingfit</span></a></p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>Wiped my old Zotac PC this morning and replaced Debian on it with the latest <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/truenas" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>truenas</span></a> Scale software. Quite daunting to use, loads of options but almost all online helps / instructions are for older versions and they have all changed since, so a lot of guess work. It already seems better than my old <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Synology" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Synology</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/nas" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>nas</span></a> DSM508 aka 2008 that can no longer be used as the software won&#39;t work with https or sftp in 2025 and so is unusable.</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/synology" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>synology</span></a> I got my very old DSM508 out, it&#39;s from around 2008 😱</p><p>I dusted it off and started it up, it started perfectly, and so I placed my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> data files on it. (After messing around and mounting a folder on my PC) Nextcloud is running on Debian</p><p>There&#39;s not much more that I can do with it, no firmware dates are available DSM 4.0-2266 was the last one, no packages are available as it&#39;s too old. But the 5 HD are still running perfectly</p><p>Any suggestions on what else I can do with it?</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>Updating to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> Hub 10 (31.0.1) gives loads of errors, mimetype warnings and optional indices. Jumping into /var/www/nextcloud and runing sudo -u www-data php occ maintenance:repair --include-expensive and sudo -u www-data php occ db:add-missing-indices got me back to a clean and healthy Nextcloud, When are we going to have updates that don&#39;t break anything ???</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Android16Beta2" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Android16Beta2</span></a></p><p>Just installed 16 beta 2, so far smooth as silk, and it didn&#39;t even wipe the phone as the older betas did, so that&#39;s nice</p>

Without having to spend time skimming through all the individual stats, time consuming 😅<br />It also makes me feel really good reading these stats &amp; incites me to ride again.</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>Trying <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/pachli" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>pachli</span></a> app on Android and quite liking it being used to Fedilab since it came out <br />In Pachli what option do you choose to stop / block / mute people who post in a language that is not English but signal it as English ? I have English, Spanish &amp; French chosen as languages that I read, but there are always people who don&#39;t post correctly</p>
Minty95 :archlinux:<p>I wanted to go <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/biking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>biking</span></a> this afternoon, on my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/GirsSolo" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GirsSolo</span></a> road bike, even though it was only 3⁰ but it started to try and rain, so I chickened out and went <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/swimming" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>swimming</span></a> at the local pool, Better than doing nothing <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/sports" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sports</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fitness" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fitness</span></a></p>
