We are humans and make mistakes, but a lot of people keep trying to make contributors work as if they aren't. It's practically begging for burnout. I've seen more give in super-critical commercial development. Because `git revert` is a thing that we can use in the end. Thankfully, this is not a universal problem in the kernel, but it's enough of one.
