Droppie [infosec] 🐨:archlinux: :kde: :firefox_nightly: :thunderbird: :vegan:<p>Late last year, after having used it as my daily default browser for a few [maybe several?] months, the incessant bugs, unrelenting workflow-buggering major changes, &amp; frequent loss of all tabs, caused me to abandon :zenbrowser: [only in early Beta back then, so <em>not</em> totes surprising] &amp; return to ticktacking back &amp; forth twixt :firefox_nightly: and :floorp:. Into 2025 those latter two continued competing for my daily affections. </p><p>T'other day i learned that the long awaited <em>native</em> <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/TabFolders" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TabFolders</span></a> in :zenbrowser: have now landed in <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/ZenTwilight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ZenTwilight</span></a> [the nightly / Alpha version], &amp; thus might be expected to make it finally into the Beta version within a week or two. This morn, possibly against my better judgement but tbc, that discovery inspired me to jump back into my :zenbrowser: Beta &amp; relearn it + learn all the stuff new since i last dabbled, in anticipation of this incipient major design UI &amp; UX change. </p><p>All the <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/KleverKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KleverKids</span></a> are saying that Zen's TabFolders are a game-changer, coz they will provide users with the first ever <em>native-in-a-Fox</em> browser tab <strong><em>hierarchical nesting</em></strong>. None of :firefox_nightly:, :firefox: , nor :floorp: has it [all only flat, not tree, structures; ditto flat-only in Chromium, Vivaldi, Edge et al]. Hitherto the only way to gain this important function has been via AddOns like <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/TreeStyleTab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TreeStyleTab</span></a> or <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/Sidebery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Sidebery</span></a>. These are both fabulous, but do not have access to all the native foxy code bits n pieces [i've damn well forgotten the proper term atm, sigh], so by using either of these AOs we lose some of the important fox functionality, eg, tab context menu items. If the Zen Dev/s do their work really well, we will finally have our tabby cake &amp; eat it. </p><p><a href="https://infosec.space/tags/ZenBrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ZenBrowser</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/FirefoxNightly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FirefoxNightly</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/Floorp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Floorp</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/Floorp12" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Floorp12</span></a></p>
Zło To<p>Migrating from <a href="https://101010.pl/tags/firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>firefox</span></a> to <a href="https://101010.pl/tags/zenBrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zenBrowser</span></a>, per official instructions:</p><p>1. close firefox<br>2. open about:config in firefox</p><p>...</p>
kazé<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://framapiaf.org/@celfred" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>celfred</span></a></span> Yes! And that’s exactly what I expected to get “built-in” in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ZenBrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ZenBrowser</span></a>. </p><p>I like Vimium and Tridactyl a lot but most of their keyboard shortcuts are inactive until a web page is loaded. Zen, as a Firefox fork, doesn’t suffer from this limitation, and is another great way to get a keyboard-centric web browser.</p><p>(Maybe the Zen + Tridactyl combo would do the trick, though.)</p>
Celfred<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@fabi1cazenave" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>fabi1cazenave</span></a></span> On my side, that's also why I like using the Tridactyl extension (navigating as much as possible with the keyboard). Hiiting 'b' gives me the tabs fuzzy finder with a nice looking toolbar and search results with numbered tabs and tabs titles. I like it a lot ! </p><p><a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/zenBrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zenBrowser</span></a> <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/Tridactyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tridactyl</span></a></p>
kazé<p>Here’s a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> trick I like a lot: rather than searching a tab visually then select it with a mouse click, I just press Ctrl-T and type a `%` sign followed by 3-4 characters of the tab title: the fuzzy-finder quickly narrows down the list to the tab I want.</p><p>It’s a banger with <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://floss.social/@zenbrowser" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>zenbrowser</span></a></span>’s compact mode. It would be even better if we had a special keyboard shortcut for that. Hint, hint. ^^</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ZenBrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ZenBrowser</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/PointingDevicesAreOverrated" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PointingDevicesAreOverrated</span></a></p>

Riiku<p>Zen Browser actually makes Firefox a 'modern' alternative to Chrome. Since simply going against Google's browser monopoly and data collection is unfortunately not enough for the general public to switch browsers, the pretty look and new features do just that.<br><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>firefox</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/zenbrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zenbrowser</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/chromealternatives" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chromealternatives</span></a></p>

How do you keep browser settings synchronized across multiple computers? I use (based on ) but if you have something good for different browsers, please do tell.

I use the built-in Sync feature to synchronize bookmarks, history and so on, but I want something more. All of my about:config, themes, toolbar layouts, and everything.

I was thinking about some module, or about starting to use just for my browser, or maybe .

Please share your experiences.

Decided to give #zenbrowser another try and am liking it more this time. Tweaking zen.theme.content-element-separation to shrink the huge borders helped. Also I'm making better use of spaces this time around.
