Scribus ist die Alternative zu InDesign. Wer #wegVonAdobe, aber trotzdem mit einem #Wysiwyg -Programm professionell setzen möchte, liegt damit richtig.

Es ist Freeware and OpenSource und auch für Linux verfügbar.
Man kann es hier downloaden:

@mhagmuller Hatte vor vielen Jahren selbst die fragwürdige Ehre, sowohl via Word als auch via #LaTeX diverse Konferenz-Proceedings technisch zu erstellen.

Man muss hier nicht extra betonen, wie viel mehr Schmerz das mit #Word war. Aber auch bei LaTeX war der Aufwand nicht unerheblich.

Persönliches Highlight: ein Prof schickte doch tatsächlich sein Paper als ein doc-File (damals noch ohne "x") für ein (LaTeX-)Proceeding, das er einfach bei der Dateiendung auf ".tex" änderte. 🤦‍♂️

@amoroso My thoughts:

- They mix up Markdown with the general term lightweight #markup language (as if #Markdown is the only #LML syntax)

- They ignore all other markup syntax examples such as (La)TeX, HTML, ...

- great screenshots of Word for DOS upwards 👍

- the title should be "#WYSIWYG vs. LML" (instead of the Word vs. Markdown story)

- no mentioning of other LML examples

Well it looks, as if we're settling for a mediocre standard again.

According to the Compugraphic page on wikipedia "Following the success of the EditWriter, Compugraphic introduced [somewhere in the 70's] the Modular Composition System, known as the "MCS". The entire system was modular, including the software, which was delivered on 5" floppy disks. As the product matured, a "#WYSIWYG" (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) display was added (the PreView) so that a user could see a "soft" view of a job before it was typeset. This was followed up by the PowerView whereby the user worked directly on a "WYSIWYG" display. The MCS was a huge success, and also marked a change in technology from 8bit to 16bit (Intel 8086) cpu hardware."

MarkupEditor (github.com/stevengharris/Marku) is a #WYSIWYG editor for #SwiftUI and #UIKit apps. It lets you create and edit clean HTML documents within an extension of WKWebView. The latest Beta uses #ProseMirror for the WYSIWYG heavy lifting on the backend. In addition to clearing up quite a few longstanding issues, the new version reduced my own JavaScript code from ~11,000 lines to ~3,000 while maintaining compatibility on the Swift side. Thanks to @marijn for such a great open source project.

#WYSIWYG-Textverarbeitung ("What you see is what you get") war ein in den 1970ern und 1980ern verbreitetes Paradigma, das versprach, dass man Dokumente auf dem Computerbildschirm genauso sehen könnte, wie sie später ausgedruckt würden. Seither hat man festgestellt, dass diese Art der Dokumentenverarbeitung nicht dazu geeignet ist, Inhaltsverzeichnisse oder Fußnoten zu erstellen, Bilder einzufügen oder mehr als einseitige Dokumente zu erstellen, auch wenn Nostalgiker weiterhin daran festhalten.
