My premiums are under $20 a month and I spend about $500 a year on a prescription. I can change plans every year to get lower premiums with no medical underwriting or pre-existing conditions.</p><p>Under Medicare, I have a monthly premium of $178. A Medigap policy (which is necessary to prevent catastrophic costs bankrupting me) will run at least $100/month and can increase every year at the whim of the insurance company and if I want to switch companies I have I can be turned down with medical underwriting or be subject to pre-existing conditions.</p><p>Add to that drug coverage, which just taking one drug currently right now which will cost me something like $3K to $5K per year for drug coverage and the cost of the drug. </p><p>My medical costs in "retirement" will run $5K to 10K per year NOW and will certainly increase as I get even older. This means, that at the high end of medical costs, something like a quarter to a third of my income will go to medical expenses.</p><p>My best option is never see a doctor and die as soon as possible.</p><p>Just as the <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/GOP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GOP</span></a> has designed the system.</p>
