Feels like I need to just use a big popular distro for a good while and maybe specialise in something else when I'm ready to. Is this right? And it #@*£* my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/VLC" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>VLC</span></a> installation too with bad error messages at the command prompt (which weren't there before the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/upgrade" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>upgrade</span></a> from v. 22) . Sigh.</p>
adingbatponder<p>Since upgrading to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ubuntu2304" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ubuntu2304</span></a> from 22.10 my dell Inspiron works faster and I even think the screen looks nicer, but the latter cannot be. What factors could be at work that my firefox and some aps such as bitwarden and firefox open very very much faster than before?</p>

Rob<p>Oh, <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> is again installed as a <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/snap" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>snap</span></a> when you upgrade to <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/Ubuntu2304" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu2304</span></a> , even if you had the PPA version from the mozilla team before. And the snap version STILL doesn't work with the Keepassxc plugin out-of-the-box. So thanks for nothing, Canonical 😠 <br>"snap remove firefox" and "apt install firefox" it is!</p>
adingbatponder<p>Upgraded to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ubuntu2304" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ubuntu2304</span></a> with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/gnome44" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>gnome44</span></a> and it is lovely. The steps forward are small but it feels more and more like my windows 11 and macOS in terms of expected behaviour and intuitive GUI stuff. Super.</p>

I was secretly hoping it would not work and I can justify switching to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/macOs" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>macOs</span></a> but so far Ubuntu has not given me the excuse 🤣</p>

Cringe-worthily trivial basic improvements taking eons... sounds like we need to start paying to accelerate this. And still has <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>firefox</span></a> as <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/snap" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>snap</span></a> - how awfully awful. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ubuntu2304" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ubuntu2304</span></a></p>
