Steve Sloan<p>SP GP30 5016 in Los Angeles, CA<br>On Tuesday, October 22, 1974, Southern Pacific (SP) GP30 5016 was sitting in the power pool at Taylor Yard in Los Angeles, CA. <br>SP 5016 was an EMD GP30, SP Class EF423-1. Reportedly: it was built in 1963, builders number 28188, SP 7406, SP Class DF-621. Eric 🇧🇪🥾🚆🚊🌼🐑🐞📷<p><b>Impressions du Harz en septembre 2000 - Episode 3</b></p><p>Après les lignes à voies normales, partons maintenant en excursion sur la Selketalbahn qui relie Gernrode à Eisfelder-Talmühle via Stiege. Elle comprend deux antennes : l'une au départ d'Alexisbad à Harzgerode et l'autre de Stiege à Hasselfelde.</p><p>Sur les vingt-cinq années qui nous séparent de ces photos, le paysage a bien changé... Là, où autrefois une forêt dense couvrait la région, aujourd'hui, de nombreuses zones sont ravagées et de nombreux arbres ont du être abattus... ce qui ne manque pas de poser des problèmes à l'infrastructure du réseau à voie étroite...</p><p>Le réseau, lui-même, est en grande difficulté financière et son avenir est même compromis, notamment sur la Selketalbahn... Recettes et financement insuffisants pourrait avoir des conséquences majeures pour les HSB qui pour rappel, avec ces 140 kilomètres de voies métrique est le plus grand en son genre. Un coup d’œil au site des HSB permet de voir ces problèmes de manière concrète avec par exemple, des réduction de l'offre, voir le remplacement par des bus de substitution pour certains parcours... Le manque de personnel joue aussi sur l'offre de trains qui doit parfois être réduite en conséquence de l'absence de signaleur...</p><p>Gageons que chacun aura à cœur de préserver cet héritage qui a plus de 125 ans d'existence!</p><p>Retournons donc en septembre 2000 pour une découverte par l'image de l'exploitation ferroviaire telle qu'elle se présentait alors.</p><p>Notre trajet commence donc dans la gare HSB qui est située en face de celle du "grand" chemin de fer sur la ligne Quedlinburg - Frose ainsi que nous avons déjà eu l'occasion de l'évoquer antérieurement. En 2025, Gernrode n'est plus qu'un point de passage puisque depuis l'abandon par la DB de la ligne de Frose, les HSB ont récupéré l'usage de l'assiette de la voie entre Quedlinburg et Gernrode et y a posé une voie métrique.</p><p>Les locomotives diesel série 199.8 sont surnommées "Harzkamel" (chameau du Harz) en raison de leur comportement en ligne. Elle assuraient la traction d'un certain nombre de trains de voyageurs. Même si la plupart des visiteurs visitent le réseau pour les "vapeurs", ces locomotives diesel méritent que l'on s'y attarde.</p><p>Dans les années 1980, la Deutsche Reichsbahn, entreprise étatique des chemins de fer de la RDA entend réduire les coûts d'exploitation des lignes du Harz et envisage de "diéséliser" l'exploitation. Il est prévu pour ce faire de transformer 30 locomotives de la série 112 (aujourd'hui 212) à voie normale (1435 mm) en machine pour la voie étroite (1000 mm). Seules dix machines seront ainsi transformées, le changement de régime en RDA ayant eu un impact positif pour le réseau des HSB. En effet, il est très vite établi que la vapeur sera plus "vendeuse".</p><p>Deux machines sont équipées de buttoirs pour la voie normale. La raison? Elles servent dans le trafic marchandises et peuvent ainsi tirer des wagons à voie normales qui sont posés sur des trucks à voie étroite comme on peut le voir sur la photo ci-après. Ces trucs sont appelés "Rollbocks" ou "Rollwagen", c'est une invention suisse.</p> <p>Au fil du temps, des autorails, neufs ou d'occasion, ont évincé peu à peu les locomotives diesel série 199.8. En 2025, on ne les croise plus sur des trains de voyageurs.</p><p>Au départ d'Alexisbad, on peut rejoindre la petite localité de Harzgerode. A la grande époque de la vapeur, on pouvait, à la sortie de la gare photographier deux trains en parallèle, le panache était assuré. j'ai eu l'occasion de vivre cette expérience lors d'un voyage spécial en 2006. En septembre 2000, pas de photo du double départ puisque ce jour-là, je voulais parcourir la ligne vers Harzgerode et que le train vers cette dernière était tracté par une machine diesel. Les photos montrent le vapeur à Alexisbad et le diesel au départ d'Alexisbad et à l'arrivée à Harzgerode.</p> <p>Lors d'une autre excursion, quelques jours plus tard, j'allais faire la connaissance des autorails série 187. Ces petits autorails sont issus d'un réseau ouest-allemand. Achetés à la firme Talbot (basée à Aachen et fournisseurs des chemins de fer néerlandais pendant de longues années) en 1955, ils étaient destinés au réseau du Canton d'Altena (Altenaer Kreisbahn). Ils officièrent ensuite sur l'île de Langeoog dans le nord de l'Allemagne, cette île fait partie du chapelet d'<a href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Eles_de_la_Frise" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">îles de la Frise</a> qui va de Texel aux Pays-Bas jusqu'à celle de Fanø au Danemark! Au milieu des années 1990, les HSB acquirent deux de ces autorails sans emploi à Langeoog dans le but de rationaliser l'exploitation du réseau notamment sur la partie sud de la Harzquerbahn entre Ilfeld et Nordhausen où l'exploitation est mixte, touristique et classique. Voici quelques vues de l'un des deux autorails Talbot à Stiege et à Eisfelder-Talmühle là où la Selktetalbahn rejoint la Harzquerbahn.</p> <p>Comme on peut le voir sur les photos de l'intérieur, le confort était plutôt spartiate!</p> <p>Il est temps de remonter dans un train vapeur pour un prochain épisode à venir sur la Harzquerbahn.
