Jonathan Littlewood<p>Shout out to The Pi Hut for saving the day! I needed a new Linux box for the Christmas break, which seemed a fine excuse for trying out the Pi 500. I ordered one on Sunday and stupidly specified shipping by Royal Mail. On Monday, Pi Hut reported a two to three-day delay. 1/2</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/pi500" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pi500</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/thepihut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>thepihut</span></a></p>
in_sympathy<p>You can't save 'em all though - another Pi 5 arrived with a dead <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DA9091" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DA9091</span></a> that <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@RaspberryPi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>RaspberryPi</span></a></span> or <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/thepihut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>thepihut</span></a> or literally anyone else won't sell. </p><p>Therefore even knowing the root of the issue you can't really help it 😔. </p><p>This is what you see with a thermal cam if you come with 3V3 over GPIO:</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/raspberrypi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>raspberrypi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ifixit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ifixit</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronic</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronicsrepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronicsrepair</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/unit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unit</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/unit260b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unit260b</span></a></p>
Mat (notenoughtech)<p>Honestly, at £94 with integrated speakers, stand and VESA mount, this <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/RaspberryPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPi</span></a> 15.6" IPS display is not a bad choice for other productivity tasks. Available at <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/ThePiHut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThePiHut</span></a> <br><a href="https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-monitor" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">thepihut.com/products/raspberr</span><span class="invisible">y-pi-monitor</span></a></p>
Ian Neill<p>Well, I couldn't splash out in the black Friday sales, but I did bag a <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/PiPicoW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PiPicoW</span></a> and a breakout board from <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/ThePiHut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThePiHut</span></a>!</p><p>However, I would like to highlight that even without the bf discount, The PiHut was still cheaper than the same things being sold on Amazon and eBay!</p><p>Anyway, order placed... Later, while reading my techy magazine (Linux Format, issue 322), what do I find but a small python project for a Pi Pico W (and an LCD display). Clearly my buy was approved by the Universe ☺️ </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/LinuxFormat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxFormat</span></a></p>
in_sympathy<p>Ok, so I did it - connected a 3D RGB Christmas Tree from <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ThePiHut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThePiHut</span></a> wrong way around. I did feel some burning smell. Pi boots ok, but the tree won’t work. Won’t also work on a different Pi. What should I check? What could possibly burn?</p><p>Sadly I don’t see anything obvious on the Tree so far - no burned traces or LEDs. How do I test those RGB LEDs with a multimeter?</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/raspberrypi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>raspberrypi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/thepihut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>thepihut</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronicsrepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronicsrepair</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a></p>
Chris Burton<p>I grabbed a couple of RP2040-GEEK <a href="https://widget.uk/tags/Waveshare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Waveshare</span></a> boards the other day from <a href="https://widget.uk/tags/ThePiHut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThePiHut</span></a> as they looked handy but I'm a bit disappointed they didn't add the extra hardware needed for the BOOT button to double as a user button 😞 .</p>

Mat (notenoughtech)<p>As my flight back home is cancelled and I'm stuck in LA - I got some time to edit project 10 (or 22) of the <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/MakerAdventCalendar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MakerAdventCalendar</span></a> by <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/ThePiHut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThePiHut</span></a> which has cool "strips" I want around my Xmas tree (if I make it home in time!)<br><a href="https://youtube.com/shorts/X2aoPbcZWis?feature=share" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/shorts/X2aoPbcZWis</span><span class="invisible">?feature=share</span></a></p>
