Bin mal wieder an überlegen, ob ich auf mein altes #Lenovo #ThinkPad #T420 #libreboot drauf packe. Warum?
Some success on the #Lenovo #T420 ... Ubuntu 20.04 installed and (shock) managed to boot from the hard drive afterwards. I guess there's a few months of support if it doesn't update successfully to a later version ... Probably adequate for what I need. For what it's with this machine previously this machine had RHEL8 install on it.
I'll keep positive and say that tomorrow I'll hopefully get something more productive done on this system ... (although I need k3s and that's not in the 20.04 repos)
#linux #thinkpad #t420 #computer #informatica
Finally opened up my T420 and found the cause to the thermal problem.
It went above 90 ℃ on load, now down to 70. Idle 45. 32 nm Sandy Bridge 35 W TPU.
Building An Open Source ThinkPad Battery - If you own a laptop that’s got a few years on the clock, you’ve probably contemplated getting a repl... - https://hackaday.com/2020/09/02/building-an-open-source-thinkpad-battery/ #laptopshacks #attinyhacks #batterypack #thinkpad #smbus #t420
Today I am going to reflash the firmware on my T420 to make it usable again. And maybe I'll tinker aroubd with some OS stuff too (maybe try out Gentoo or a BSD?).
So lots of tinkering fun coming up :)
