AnneTheWriter<p>A lot of Jewish people hid their religion & their ethnicity after coming to the U.S. <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/AntiSemitism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AntiSemitism</span></a> was not only in Germany, it was all over. </p><p>When you watch a <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Superman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Superman</span></a> movie or read the comics, you see a character created by two Jewish boys about a man from another world, with a secret identity, who puts on glasses and a suit to blend into the world around him. </p><p>That's who Superman is. He's the first-generation immigrant who was once called Kal-El, and is now Clark Kent. </p><p>But here's the important part: <br>NO ONE KNOWS his true identity.</p><p>He is a metaphor for so many first-generation Jewish people in the late 1800s/early 1900s, who hid their <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Jewish" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Jewish</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/ancestry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ancestry</span></a> and changed their names to blend in. </p><p>Do you have Jewish ancestors? Look at your tree. Find the "Russian,” "Polish," “Ukrainian,” and "Czech" immigrants. Your Jewish ancestor probably comes from there.
