What was the glowing blue spiral seen in the night sky above Europe?

A glowing blue spiral was spotted in European skies on Monday evening, causing a stir on social media.

The swirls were seen across Europe with reports of sightings from the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Germany, Ukraine, Denmark, and Poland.

The explanation for them is more manmade than extraterrestrial.

This wasn’t a stormy day or even a particularly cold one. In fact in the other direction there was a blue sky and few clouds. The view is looking out towards the island of Rum from the Isle of Skye. It’s perfectly possible to see locally divergent weather patterns and not experience the actual conditions. I didn’t get wet. The dog and I had a pleasant walk.

yer puckle concerns on the £ or on Brexit.
It’s the cant o the climate & aabody gets it
eeksie-peeksie, we mump & we greet & we tyauve it
fae Lerwick tae Perth, fae Kirkcaldy tae Hawick,
gan on how we hadnae a summer, it’s affy
and on wi the thermals & semmits & baffies,
gan oot for the messages, endin up pecht
wi the hail turravee, it’s a gey sair fecht
....etc.
