Mike Zamansky<p>When solving class problems, instructors frequently miss the root cause. Jakob Barnard, PhD<p>Ok so that was a fun way to round out <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SIGCSE2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SIGCSE2023</span></a> - ran over to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/TorontoComicCon" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TorontoComicCon</span></a> and got a picture with Karl Urban</p>
Jakob Barnard, PhD<p>Feedback and research collected at <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SIGCSE2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SIGCSE2023</span></a> will go into the Curricular Practices version of the paper and the process workbook that is being developed and published with the Computer Science 2023 guidelines from the ACM/IEEE - <a href="https://csed.acm.org/curricular-practices-volume-liberal-arts/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">csed.acm.org/curricular-practi</span><span class="invisible">ces-volume-liberal-arts/</span></a></p>
Jakob Barnard, PhD<p>Paper session at <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/sigcse2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sigcse2023</span></a> went well today - Computer Science Curriculum Guidelines: A New Liberal Arts Perspective - <a href="https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3545945.3569793" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3545945</span><span class="invisible">.3569793</span></a></p>
Borja Sotomayor<p>Well, <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/sigcse2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sigcse2023</span></a> and Toronto, it's been real awesome, but it's time to head back to sweet home Chicago.</p>
Pamela Fox<p>I presented my tool for visualizing call graphs as an e-poster at <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SIGCSE2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SIGCSE2023</span></a> today.<br /> <br /><a href="https://dl.acm.org/doi/epdf/10.1145/3545947.3576326" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dl.acm.org/doi/epdf/10.1145/35</span><span class="invisible">45947.3576326</span></a></p><p>Try it @ <a href="https://www.recursionvisualizer.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">recursionvisualizer.com/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Ruth Starkman<p>So many great papers on collaborative student learning at 🔥🔥<a href="https://dair-community.social/tags/sigcse2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sigcse2023</span></a> ❤️</p>
Jakob Barnard, PhD<p>Great first day at <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/sigcse2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sigcse2023</span></a> - full-day affiliated event and an evening workshop made for a marathon start... but a lot of fun. I had the opportunity to give the welcome and opening remarks at our Liberal Arts affiliated event.</p>
Ruth Starkman<p>🔥🔥<a href="https://dair-community.social/tags/sigcse2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sigcse2023</span></a> paper from <br><span class="h-card"><a href="https://hci.social/@cfiesler" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>cfiesler</span></a></span> et al. <a href="https://dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/3545945.3569855" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/354</span><span class="invisible">5945.3569855</span></a> CS ethics educators benefit from "providing additional resources for educators to re-use material or make their own material from scratch; collaboration with others; and community or institutional support."🤩🤩</p>
Borja Sotomayor<p>All checked in at MDW for my flight to Toronto for <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/sigcse2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sigcse2023</span></a>. Anyone else going to <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/sigcse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sigcse</span></a>?</p>
Dr. Casey Fiesler<p>In general the panel here on “buy in” is bringing up a lot of the barriers to ethics integration in computing classes that we identified in this upcoming <a href="https://hci.social/tags/sigcse2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sigcse2023</span></a> paper: not enough control over the curriculum, not enough relevant knowledge, poor incentive structures, not enough support, etc. <a href="https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3545945.3569855" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3545945</span><span class="invisible">.3569855</span></a></p>
Pamela Fox<p>I like the trend of giving speakers the option to opt-in to conference swag! Both <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SIGCSE2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SIGCSE2023</span></a> and <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/PWC2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PWC2023</span></a> gave me that option this week. (I opted no for both)</p>
Pamela Fox<p>I&#39;ll be a virtual attendee of both <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SIGCSE2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SIGCSE2023</span></a> and <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/PyconUS" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PyconUS</span></a> this year, since I&#39;ve got a &lt;1 year old (plus a preschooler) at home. Anyone else joining the virtual party?!</p>
Karl R. Wurst<p>Very productive three-day sprint on the GitKit! This is a kit to let students learn Git workflow in the context of a real Humanitarian FOSS project. Great work from Stoney Jackson, Grant Braught, and Cam Macdonnell. We will be demoing this at <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SIGCSE2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SIGCSE2023</span></a> in Toronto. <a href="https://sigcse2023.sigcse.org/details/sigcse-ts-2023-demos/10/Kits-Creating-Repeatable-Learning-Experiences-Using-Real-HFOSS-Projects" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">sigcse2023.sigcse.org/details/</span><span class="invisible">sigcse-ts-2023-demos/10/Kits-Creating-Repeatable-Learning-Experiences-Using-Real-HFOSS-Projects</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/GitKit" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GitKit</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/HFOSSedu" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HFOSSedu</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/CSWorcester" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CSWorcester</span></a></p>

Toronto is pretty far away, and my baby will just be ~10 mos old, sooo it feels logistically too hard, and too stressful for my partner. It&#39;d be nice to see people, but I&#39;m thinking it&#39;ll be another virtual year for me. <br />One day I&#39;ll attend conferences in person...one day.</p>
