Making progress on the shuttle tatted choker/necklace/whatchamacallit. I've always been fascinated by lace making, but the bobbin and pin method is a) impossible to do on the go and b) a sensory nightmare with the clacking of bobbins against each other 😵‍💫 i was so happy when i discovered shuttle tatting, which eliminates both issues and is actually not that hard to learn. The stitches are structured pretty much like macrame knots and the patterns/diagrams are easy to follow. Even for me, and i can't stand reading patterns 🫣 this is a free pattern i found online, originally meant to be attached as edging on a handkerchief.

Another one from my never-ending list of crafts: shuttle tatting! This is a ye olden maid kind of skill. It's tiny, finicky and not particularly forgiving. I love it 😌
This is a shuttle and ball pattern, using my favourite Aerlit shuttle with the tiny hook. Gonna continue this pattern until it's choker length and either attach it lengthways to a velvet ribbon or just use a bit of silk ribbon in the back for closure. It'll be gifted to a dear friend who likes to dress up for ren fairs etc.

Final round in progress on my original collar design that I will submit to the Finger Lakes Tatting Seminar organizers when finished. They look at photos and written instructions and then choose which items to schedule classes for. No problem if they don’t select my design, I could still go there to sell hand dyed thread! The event is April 4-6, 2025 but deadline for class submission is Oct. 6. #tatting #shuttletatting #designing #fiberarts #lacemaking #crafts

Continued thread

Thanks to @yarnplayer's suggestion to use a lock join, my scalloped edge looks so much more scalloped now <3

One question remains, though: the pattern says to work this round with one shuttle and the ball.
So normally I'd have to work the little 10 st ring pointing to the outside of the arch with the ball thread, right?

I fudged it by switching threads, worked the ring with the shuttle thread and then switched back. Is that correct?
