I tried out the automatic component placement function in Kicad yesterday, as I have a big (240x190mm) board I just started laying out. It works great! That is, if you want to simulate automatically ”placing” components by just dropping them onto the PCB.

I’m sure I’m doing something wrong, but it was pretty hilarious.

I was rooting for components in a little cardboard box whilst breadboarding the other day and was reminded of the many hours i spent doing the same for Lego pieces as a kid.
It would be more rational to just toss out old used components (cheap ones anyway) or at least to put them back in different bins. I have sorted bins but they require walking two whole steps, so cardboard boxes with random parts it is. I like it. Ten times better with cardboard box sound. #diy #sdiy #electronics #lego

I hope lots of people order, and I’m pretty broke right now, so I can’t afford to buy the parts if they do. I will cover @shopify s fees.

The kits are €35, by the way.

Oh—if you already have one – donate! Tell your friends! Buy one as a gift! Share!

Building another #MutableInstruments Stages and trying out one of those cheap USB microscopes to verify my work.

The video FPS is slow, but otherwise it's actually pretty useful, especially since this build uses 0402 SMD parts and some really fragile little pins on the microcontroller.

Doing this by hand as always.
