Here's a heart-shaped tape drive belt for you 😄. Wanted to fix a #Datassette for a friend quickly, so I replaced the belt and tried to align the azimut, but as it turns out, this little fella seems to have problems transmitting data reliably. I've never seen this before, but sometimes it will read something (as the align tool indicates to me onscreen), but then again it will not output any signals the next time I turn it on, although the drive is working, the spools are spinning and so on. After a few tries, it works again - until it doesn't. Impossible to align and test it in that condition. Does anybody have any ideas what might be causing it?

Well, it has been a while. Quick update. I'm going to work through the last video on the #nintendo64 repair project, but it will be ending on a sad note. Despite a new, genuine cart slot, it is still not loading most carts. I'll put it in its new shell but I'm not planning on investing more time or money repairing it. This #generativeai image will make up the title card for that video when I get around to posting it. #retrorepairs #retrogaming

Today I'm going to refurbish the second of three #C64 that are still waiting for repair. When I got this one, it was quite dirty and with permanent marker text on the back. It was sold as defective because it showed no picture, which I could already fix by replacing the VIC. I also already cleaned the case, and fully disassembled and cleaned the keyboard. (Photo shows the "before" state, of course. 😉 )

Next step: Recapping, and replacing the 7805 with a DC/DC converter.

A good friend of mine, Steven, was kind enough to get me a desoldering station after my last video. I’ve also found a replacement cart connector for the Nintendo 64. With the new gear I’m planning on setting up a new workbench that isn’t my main desk so I’m more inclined to do work. Hopefully I’ll have it ready this weekend and I can finally make progress on the N64 #nintendo64 #retrorepairs #retrogaming
