🇩🇪 #ATMOS has few competitors, of which #VardaSpace and #InversionSpace both apply parachutes 🪂 for the final descent of their return capsules. #Phoenix doesn’t require parachutes due to its large surface area and low mass, allowing its shape to essentially act as a parachute. The ballistic coefficient is lower than #NASA’s #LOFTID demonstrator. The next Phoenix to launch will carry "green #propulsion; ethane and nitrous oxide” nasaspaceflight.com/2025/06/at

A significant number of #tiles have been removed from #Starship to stress-test vulnerable areas across the vehicle during #reentry. Multiple metallic tile options, including one with active cooling, will test alternative materials for protecting Starship during reentry. On the sides of the vehicle, functional catch 🦾 fittings are installed and will test the fittings’ thermal 🌡️ and structural performance spacex.com/launches/mission/?m

@cosmos4u also they all propably use similar #tracking #radar and models re: upper atmosphere and the rotation and speed of it.

  • Needless to say all of them expect it to crash down as a glowing hot 500kg chonk of metal hitting the surface.

Pretty shure the window will tighten once they have visual contact at the beginning of #reentry and I'm shure any telescope in the flight path that has enough angular speed will try to track it down with it's pathway and send a live video feed with location, direction and elevation to their space agency to help in that endeavour.

For those interested the Kosmos 482 decent craft track is now available live via:

n2yo.com/?s=6073&live=1

It is due to make an uncontrolled re-rentry sometime in the next few days

The current nominal forecast is reentry on 10th May 2025, 23:06 UTC ± 1.8 days

This spacecraft orbit does take it over the southern part of the UK. UK pass details can be found via:

which are just the visable passes .

🔴 Soviet Venus Probe to Crash Back to Earth After 53 Years

🔸 Kosmos 482, stuck in orbit since 1972, to re-enter in early May.
🔸 Half-ton capsule may survive reentry—impact zone unknown.
🔸 Built to endure Venus' atmosphere; heat shield still intact.
🔸 Risk is minimal, but object may hit anywhere between Canada & South America.

"Part of a spacecraft that launched in 1972 and has been orbiting Earth for 53 years is due to reenter Earth’s atmosphere in the next two weeks and could crash to the ground intact, scientists say. The 1,100-pound module... is expected to reenter Earth’s atmosphere sometime between May 7 and May 13 in an event that is being closely watched by scientists.”
