ClaireI've just heard a <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Cuckoo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Cuckoo</a> in the <a href="https://mas.to/tags/garden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#garden</a>. I was starting to think I'd imagined hearing one last year, but apparently not. Angus WAs usual <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RedKites" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#RedKites</a> were about; occasionally being moved on by corvids. Patterning is essentially the same across m/f but I've been told the notch in tail is often deeper on males. HughsterI'd been wondering which of the neighbours had had a baby that could be heard cooing and squeaking outside every day when none of them have had one (to my knowledge). It turns out a colony of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RedKites" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#RedKites</a> have moved in and are now regularly soaring around overhead, and that's what they sound like.Only relatively recently they were on the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/endangered" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#endangered</a> list in the UK, and here we are. FrogyUKIt is nesting season for Red Kites. I have seen them flying with building materials in their mouths. As monogamous birds, mating pairs will return to the same nests each season, adding new material to them during the breeding period. Numbers vary from two in the winter, anywhere up to about 15 in the spring and summer, when the fields are being cut for hay, or neighbouring farm has fresh intake of free range <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/chickens" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#chickens</a> or <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/guineafowl" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#guineafowl</a>.
