Emory<p>behold as i "vibe flail" my way into this readwise API manager i've been hacking on in an attempt to make the service usable again.</p><p>every time i go to add or change a tag on anything in my <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://bird.makeup/users/readwisereader" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>readwisereader</span></a></span> account it hangs the browser and/or eventually crashes it. i think it's because i have like 80k documents and over 6K tags and 2500 of them are used once.</p><p>so i'm hacking together something with the help of an <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> and learning entirely too much about <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwiseReader</span></a>'s APIs and shortcomings.</p>
Emory<p>alright it's actually worse than i expected. the fact that it takes about an hour every time i iterate over this code to un-fsck my <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwiseReader</span></a> account is annoying enough.</p><p>for those playing at home:</p><p>## emory's <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://bird.makeup/users/readwisereader" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>readwisereader</span></a></span> </p><p>- 112,299 items<br>- 5561 tags in use<br>- 5447 of them are used less than 10 times<br>- 2659 are used 1 time</p><p># action plan</p><p>- drop all tags used 1 time and test performance of adding highlight with metadata to Reader<br>- if still sluggish drop all tags used 10 or less times.</p>
Emory<p>for those interested in my <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/ReadwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReadwiseReader</span></a> annoyances: </p><p>their web UI crawls to a stop every time I try to add a tag to an ITEM (article, book, paper, feed) and i suspect it's cuz i have a ton of tags.</p><p>for diving into your <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwise</span></a> data this repo is good: <a href="https://github.com/Scarvy/readwise-reader-cli" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/Scarvy/readwise-rea</span><span class="invisible">der-cli</span></a> and an AI will get it fast.</p><p>So I have exactly **5555 tags** in my Readwise Reader.</p><p>when it comes to triaging information, data, knowledge of any kind i over-taxonomize easily. gotta cull many but can't in browser 🤣</p>
Emory<p>i've been using <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/PiecesOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PiecesOS</span></a> the <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> Context Service that keeps track of what i'm working on across three workstations. </p><p>i found a repo of code that might let me cull tags from my <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwiseReader</span></a> account but was having some errors so i outright asked "will this let me do this" and the co-pilot was like "bruh look at your terminal output it's clearly working, you just need to use the right flags duh" 😂 </p><p>now it's just the rate limiting. apparently i've got over 80k articles and feed items in there!</p>
Emory<p>i don't suppose anyone has any <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://bird.makeup/users/readwisereader" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>readwisereader</span></a></span> tips for how to remove under-used tags? i have entirely too many and it makes Reader bog down to be almost unusable in a browser. </p><p>both my macs and a windows workstation; all have at least 64GB of memory and Reader tanks every browser when i try to sort tags 🤪 i know i over-taxonomize but come on.</p><p><a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/metadata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>metadata</span></a> <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/tagCleanup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tagCleanup</span></a> <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwiseReader</span></a></p>
Emory<p>ugh my g-d the <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwiseReader</span></a> highlighter extension is completely bogging down just typing in a tag. i wedged Arc browser for about four minutes trying to get focus back from the extension on my <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/windows11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows11</span></a> workstation. good grief what is happening &gt;&lt;</p>
Emory<p>my favorite <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/bookmarks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookmarks</span></a> software is now <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/linkding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linkding</span></a>. i wanted to like the cli options (because agents) but i can still use them for that purpose (arguably more effective that way) </p><p>between linkding and <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwiseReader</span></a> i haven't used pinboard except to search other user's bookmarks because it's a goldmine! </p><p>i use <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/Linkdy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linkdy</span></a> on iOS bookmarklet on iPad.</p>
Michael Santaly<p>So far I’m liking <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/vivaldi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vivaldi</span></a>. I’m still frustrated over <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Pocket" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Pocket</span></a> and the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Mozilla" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mozilla</span></a> situation as I’d like to use a non <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Chromium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Chromium</span></a> browser, but what’s with these tech companies run by non-profits that still seem to take a VC mindset. Still deciding if I want <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/raindropio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>raindropio</span></a> or <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/readwisereader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwisereader</span></a> as my daily driver for read later</p>
Emory<p>i like this idea a lot. i have been experimenting with using the kitchen iPad and an intel 27" iMac as a dash for the house. agendas, what is coming up, weather, etc.</p><p>an eink panel designed for this use case is appealing. i do have a <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/boox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>boox</span></a> noteAir2 reader and notepad, but i can't find the right flow for annotations, so i end up using iPad more for reading than previously.</p><p>also <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/readwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwiseReader</span></a> sucks on the Boox. performance is just terrible for app, browser too.<br><a href="https://usetrmnl.com/?ref=mpu" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">usetrmnl.com/?ref=mpu</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
रञ्जित (Ranjit Mathew)<p>Wondering where to take refuge now — go back to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Instapaper" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Instapaper</span></a> or try out <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Matter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Matter</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ReadwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReadwiseReader</span></a>? 🤔</p><p>Any other suggestions for apps that work across <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/iOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iOS</span></a> and desktop?</p><p>Ugh! This is like <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Zite" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Zite</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GoogleReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GoogleReader</span></a> all over again. 😰</p>
Michael Santaly<p>I’m doing a trail run of <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/readwisereader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readwisereader</span></a> since <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/pocket" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pocket</span></a> is dead, and <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://tapbots.social/@ivory" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>ivory</span></a></span> ‘s integration seems to be broken? Anthony Baker<p>What I had hoped was: I buy the ebook, get the ePub file, can upload to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ReadwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReadwiseReader</span></a> on my devices, highlight the sucker as I see fit, and then easily be able to access all the highlights/notes from wherever. </p><p> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ebooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ebooks</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/eshittification" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>eshittification</span></a></p>
Emory<p>i use the RSS/Atom feature in <a href="https://soc.kvet.ch/tags/ReadwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReadwiseReader</span></a> myself and it's great.</p>
Philipp<p>Quick question for advanced <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/tapestryapp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tapestryapp</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/tapestry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tapestry</span></a> by <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://iconfactory.world/@Iconfactory" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Iconfactory</span></a></span> users: I would like to open blog posts from RSS feeds in <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/ReadwiseReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReadwiseReader</span></a> as it is my preferred reading app and I use it to capture highlights. </p><p>Now, Reader does not pop up as app to open links from an RSS in Tapestry, so it seems like it does not support Universal Links or provides URL schemes to permalinks. However, can I achieve that with a Custom setup? I need to dig into the support site, but this is a bit over my head.</p>
Quinn Comendant<p>Just shipped v1!</p><p>Reade is a LaunchBar action to interact with the Readwise and Reader APIs. Among them a new header design for your saved items. </p><p>Still my favorite and most versatile read it later app. The king.</p>
