Chase Hainey<p>Ugh. Booted up my laptop to test some code I wrote on my desktop to make sure it behaves on my laptop as well, only to discover the latest <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/kernel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>kernel</span></a> has completely borked my WiFi. I thought it was a system issue, I did some troubleshooting, then just reinstalled <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a>. Still no WiFi. I'll try to roll back tomorrow when I have more time to play with it. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a></p>

Tried migrating to Debian Sid, but no luck in getting Audio/Wifi working on that laptop until I went to Arch. Just stuck with <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> since then.</p>

Chase Hainey<p>Hmm. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nixos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nixos</span></a> is being weird on a fresh install. Without using linuxPackages_latest I get sound but no WiFi, using linuxPackages_latest gives me WiFi but no sound. Having a 2024 <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a> is so frustrating. Tried stable and unstable combos and no luck. I guess I need to figure out what sound driver is being used and pin that version. Just didn't have enough time today. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>

Chase Hainey<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://gamerstavern.online/@therealahall" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>therealahall</span></a></span> I’d still be using <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> if it worked out of the box for my laptop. Couldn’t get wireless or sound working on a 2024 <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a>. When that changes, I’ll be back.</p>
Chase Hainey<p>I was able to get <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Hyprland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hyprland</span></a> WM running alongside my <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/cinnamon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cinnamon</span></a> DE in <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/opensuse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensuse</span></a>. I’m still stumbling around zypper and opi, but making progress overall. But, this is the best overall experience I’ve had so far on my <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a>. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Chase Hainey<p>Been using <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/opensuse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensuse</span></a> Tumbleweed on my laptop for a day. So far it seems like everything just works with my 2024 <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a>. I’m still learning the OS and it’s not <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nixos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nixos</span></a> but it works, so that’s something. I already miss the <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/AUR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AUR</span></a>. But my sound and WiFi work without hacks or scripts being run at startup. I was able to get <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/cinnamon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cinnamon</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Hyprland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hyprland</span></a> running side by side without any hassle. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Chase Hainey<p>I’ve been fighting sound and WiFi issues on my 2024 <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a> since I got it. I’ve been distro hopping like crazy with varying degrees of success. My path of insanity. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/lmde6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lmde6</span></a> -&gt; <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/debiansid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debiansid</span></a> -&gt; <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> -&gt; <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nixos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nixos</span></a> -&gt; <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a>. I loved <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nixos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nixos</span></a> but ran into issues gaming. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> WiFi works but drops requiring reboot and sound requires a script at startup but no system sounds. Installed <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/opensuse_tumbleweed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensuse_tumbleweed</span></a> tonight and sound and WiFi seems to work. Going to test games tomorrow. Maybe I found a winner?</p>
Chase Hainey<p>Maybe I need to play around in the unstable branch tomorrow. Still learning NixOS so I’ve kept everything pretty vanilla so far. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nixos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nixos</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nvidia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nvidia</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Chase Hainey<p>Hmm. Trying to move my laptop to <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nixos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nixos</span></a> and I think I’m going to struggle tomorrow. Because I have a 2024 <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a>, I need to use the latest kernel drivers for WiFi to work. It also has an <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nvidia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nvidia</span></a> card that the latest drivers fail to build against latest kernel on my desktop. Sound is still broken out of the box, but I have a script to fix that. Maybe I’ll luck out, but may need to stick with <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> on the laptop for a while longer. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Chase Hainey<p>I was able to get sound working from following a script from a forum I found online. It survives a reboot. Audio works in apps, but system sounds still don’t seem to be working. Such a bizarre issue. I think I’m going to move my desktop to <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> tomorrow from <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/lmde6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lmde6</span></a> to keep my laptop and desktop “in sync”. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Chase Hainey<p>Good news/bad news. Sound on my laptop works. It only works on Windows side, though. Windows reports the driver as Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio Codec with THX Spatial Audio) so that gives me a place to start. Will start after I run to the store for a new motherboard. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/microcenter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>microcenter</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Chase Hainey<p>I’m going to throw the <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a> drive back in there tomorrow and see if the audio works on that side. Maybe I got a lemon? Pretty odd that the distros pick up the audio output device but no sound comes out. Especially since the mic input works and the camera works. My return window is running out at <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/microcenter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>microcenter</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Chase Hainey<p>Hmm. Well it appears the 2024 <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/razerblade14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>razerblade14</span></a> doesn’t have working audio drivers. Doesn’t work in any distro I tested. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
