This is Eastney beach, Portsmouth, close to the nudist area (for the brave) and also very near where the Jon Pertwee-era Doctor Who episodes of The Sea Devils were filmed at a former Navy training centre and radar research base.

Booked ourselves a little treat for next month (we'll pretend it's for my birthday even though we don't buy presents) and it will be a second attempt to sail around the Isle of Wight on the world's last seagoing paddle steamer, Waverley. Tried in 2022 but ended up spending the day in Yarmouth instead owing to some engine issues. Lovely, old vessel with an open engine room to the pistons and paddles.

Team captain from Portsmouth? We'll be supporting Edinburgh then.

For #SchiffsSamstag here's HMS Warrior in our home city of Portsmouth, taken as we sailed out past the historic dockyard on a ship in 2021. HMS Warrior is a nineteenth century ironclad frigate with a steam engine but also the capability to raise sails.

Shared for information purposes on Instagram as we know a load of people who will soon be sailing out of #Portsmouth aboard the Virgin #cruise ship Scarlet Lady when she is based here over the next couple of months. This was from our 2021 experience of the same. We cruise a lot and Portsmouth remains one of the most interesting, most historic ports to sail from, even if we say so ourselves. Naval dockyard, historic ships, the Spinnaker Tower, etc.

The Hover Travel terminal in Southsea has all the charm of an unimproved 1980s railway waiting room (which to be fair, it pretty much is).

Not setting us up for a great #hovercraft experience.
