Giovanni Soto
Proton Pass is a secure password manager developed by the creators of Proton Mail, designed to help users store and manage their passwords safely. With end-to-end encryption, Proton Pass ensures that your sensitive information remains private and protected from unauthorized access. Its user-friendly interface allows you to generate strong passwords, autofill login forms, and securely share credentials with trusted contacts, making online security simple and effective.

#ProtonPass #PasswordManager #OnlineSecurity #DataProtection #Privacy #SecurePasswords #Encryption #CyberSecurity

Proton Pass is a password manager that helps you keep track of your passwords and sensitive information securely. Imagine trying to remember numerous passwords for different websites and services. It can be overwhelming and risky if you use the same password across multiple accounts. Proton Pass simplifies this by storing all your passwords in one secure place, so you don’t have to remember them all.

When you create an account with Proton Pass, you start by setting up a master password. This master password is the key to accessing all your stored passwords. It’s essential to choose a strong and unique master password because it protects all your other passwords. Once your account is set up, you can begin adding your passwords for various accounts, such as email, social media, or online shopping sites.

One of the standout features of Proton Pass is its strong encryption. This means that your passwords are scrambled into a code that only you can unlock. Even Proton Pass itself cannot see your passwords, ensuring that your information remains private. This level of security is crucial in today’s digital world, where data breaches and hacking attempts are common.

Proton Pass also includes a password generator, which helps you create strong, unique passwords for each of your accounts. For instance, instead of using "123456" or "password," which are easy to guess, you can generate a complex password that includes letters, numbers, and symbols. This makes it much harder for anyone to access your accounts.

Another useful feature is the autofill function. When you visit a website that requires a login, Proton Pass can automatically fill in your username and password for you. This not only saves time but also reduces the risk of typing errors. You simply need to unlock Proton Pass with your master password or biometric authentication, like a fingerprint or facial recognition, and it will do the rest.

Proton Pass also allows you to securely share passwords with trusted contacts. For example, if you need to share a subscription service password with a family member, you can do so through Proton Pass without exposing the password in an insecure way, like through email or messaging apps.

In addition to storing passwords, Proton Pass helps you manage other sensitive information, such as credit card details and secure notes. This means you can keep all your important information organized and accessible while ensuring it remains protected.

In summary, Proton Pass is an excellent tool for anyone looking to improve their online security and manage their passwords efficiently. With its strong encryption, password generation, autofill capabilities, and secure sharing options, it provides a comprehensive solution for keeping your sensitive information safe. Whether you’re a casual internet user or someone who manages numerous accounts, Proton Pass makes it easy to maintain your online security and privacy without the hassle of remembering every password.

Linux Is Best
I found two (2) password managers outside US-jurisdiction.

Neither am I completely satisfied with, because both of them are suspect, not in the terms of security, but whether you end up using a non-US based server with a non-US based company.

What do I mean?

1st, both companies are not directly Us-based. That's the good news. They also do not own any servers in the USA either, more good news.

1) 1Password, located in Canada, North America

2) pCloud, based out of Switzerland, operated out of Bulgaria, Europe. Despite their TOS, presume, Bulgaria https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCloud

But as I said, that's the good news, they're not US-based.

However, in the case of 1Password, they're owned by, AgileBits Inc, which again, still Canada. But their primary investor (shareholder) is Accel, formerly known as Accel Partners, is a global venture capital firm, located in California, USA.

For some people, that's not going to matter, because they do not directly own the company. But they do have the majority of shares, and that means a US-based company can indeed influence the Canadian company.

If that does not matte to you, that's fine, provided you use a VPN to sign up, and are sure you use 1Password Dot CA or EU, because otherwise you're likely to be hosted on their US-base servers. They do not own US-servers, but they do lease a few.

Which brings me to pCloud.

Also, you want to use a VPN, because their own documentation notes they assign you also to the server, depending on where you signed up from. I suggest using their pcloud DOT com/de/eu website. Else, you could end up on their US-based servers.

You can see a copy of the documentation here: https://docs.pcloud.com

pCloud also has 1 other thing I find concerning. Alongside their monthly and yearly plans (they also offer a free plan to try them), they offer a "lifetime plan". Lifetime plans are often "cash grabs" because no corporation is really going to offer their services for an unlimited time, forever, with 1 small fee. pCloud has been around since 2014 (11 years), but if one day they grandfather this plan, or change names, or are bought by another company, I will not be surprised. I do not suggest you sign up using a "lifetime" plan.

These two companies (1Password and pCloud) are NOT a recommendation, and I am NOT going to put either on my list of recommended providers. But this is an option that may work for some of you. The goal was to find a provider that is not US-based and did not require you to host or manage your own services. This technically fits that requirement, but I am STILL looking for alternatives.

#PasswordManager #Password #BitWarden #ProtonPass

RE: https://misskey.de/notes/a3yyif5si0

Linux Is Best
Personally, I also need to find a replacement password manager, Bit Warden.

I am not going to host it locally, since the whole point is not to have my password manage based in the United States. Linux Is Best
I keep getting asked this (repeatedly).

" What about Proton VPN? I think they are in Europe."

A division of Proton is now a US-based company. Particularly, Proton Wallet. Their Terms of Services, also goes into lengths concerning Us Laws and Us Customers. It goes beyond just the CEO's support for fascism leadership (Donald Trump).

Naturally, making this list is not easy. These are two types of companies I avoided in making my list.

1) Those who actually fall under US-jurisdiction because they are based or owned by a company in the USA.

More than often, I will stumble over a company that appears to be outside the USA, but later find they are owned by another corporation based inside the USA, and so they do fall under US-jurisdiction.

2) Those who voluntarily give up their sovereignty to the United States.
