haui<p>...and it broke.</p><p>Well, actually <a href="https://mastodon.giftedmc.com/tags/fluffychat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fluffychat</span></a> itself probably did nothing but since yesterday the backspace button on the - i assume newly updated - <a href="https://mastodon.giftedmc.com/tags/osk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>osk</span></a> on <a href="https://mastodon.giftedmc.com/tags/phosh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>phosh</span></a> does not seem to register in fluffychat anymore.</p><p>while that is a little frustrating, the text highlighting function has gotten an update as well and not i can easily mark and just replace text. its not perfect but it is bearable.</p><p>nobody said <a href="https://mastodon.giftedmc.com/tags/dogfooding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dogfooding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.giftedmc.com/tags/postmarketos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>postmarketos</span></a> would be easy. :)</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.giftedmc.com/tags/oneplus6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oneplus6</span></a></p>
mirabilos<p><strong>on-screen keyboard testing</strong></p><p>(on bullseye, X.org/evdev, xkb layout) <a href="https://toot.mirbsd.org/tags/osk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OSK</span></a></p><p><strong>caribou</strong></p><p>Not tested, the screenshot shows it’s not what I was looking for. Also, old, mentions GOK but that doesn’t even exist any more?</p><p>What, though, is “scanning mode”? That also shows up in at least one more keyboard below…</p><p><strong>maliit-keyboard</strong></p><p>Awful for most users, see above in the thread.</p><p><strong>matchbox-keyboard</strong></p><p>Not tested, also special-layout.</p><p><strong>onboard</strong></p><p>Very tiny writing. Might recognise the layout, but doesn’t insert anything for me (possibly incompatible with <code>evilwm</code> or other focus-follows-mouse models).</p><p><strong>osk-sdl</strong></p><p><code>Description: Lightweight On-Screen-Keyboard based on SDL2</code></p><p>It can only run during initramfs to unlock LUKS or something. What a scam.</p><p><strong>qml-module-qtquick-virtualkeyboard, qt6-virtualkeyboard, qtvirtualkeyboard5</strong></p><p>They all install only DLLs. I have <em>no</em> idea how to even use them. What a joke.</p><p><strong>squeekboard</strong></p><p>Not tested, it’s for Wayland. Apparently very customisable, but won’t pick up the xkb layout.</p><p><strong>xvkbd</strong></p><p>Enters chars but is not compatible with ISO_Level3_Shift-based layouts; rather it would want Mode_switch-based ones, so it might do well with the xmodmap layout.</p>
mirabilos<p>Good news, things work as desired under KDE-Wayland and KDE-Xorg (except PointerKeys don’t seem to work under Wayland 😾).</p><p>Bad news, KDE-Xorg has no onscreen keyboard, not even the setting for it, while KDE-Wayland has <code>maliit</code> (“the only one that works on <a href="https://toot.mirbsd.org/tags/wayland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wayland</span></a>” according to The Internet) which is <em>also</em> one of those smartphone-like things; someone reports it cannot even switch from QWERTY to AZERTY (which, while laudable, is obviously a problem). Didn’t <a href="https://toot.mirbsd.org/tags/kde" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KDE</span></a> use to have its own <a href="https://toot.mirbsd.org/tags/osk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OSK</span></a>?</p><p>Is there any onscreen keyboard around that actually uses the configured layout, opposed to rendering some kind of limited keyboardish thing itself?</p><p>And altogether, I forgot to note that this layout works very well with <a href="https://mbsd.evolvis.org/cvs.cgi/X11/xc/nls/Compose/en_US.UTF-8?rev=HEAD" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">my XFree86® compose configuration</a> (to install, <code>cpp -traditional -undef -P -DXCOMM='#' &lt;downloaded-file-name &gt;~/.XCompose</code>… at least for X11, though Gtk+ seems to parse them as well, judging from the couple of “my <a href="https://toot.mirbsd.org/tags/compose" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Compose</span></a> implementation is not good enough for this entry” messages it shows when first encountering it). It’s got bugfixes vs. Xorg’s.</p><p>Oh, and someone mentioned that some IMEs disable… or ignore?… <a href="https://toot.mirbsd.org/tags/xkb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xkb</span></a>, so they might need to be disabled. If you find one, do tell; the Debian 12 live CD has ibus enabled which doesn’t.</p>
