But it was and to this day remains a largely community-run </span><a href="https://blahaj.zone/tags/openContent" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#openContent</a> project <i>without</i> all that much <a href="https://blahaj.zone/tags/Corpo-Involvement" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Corpo-Involvement</a><span>. Wikipedia has always rejected money from advertisers and has strict policies against buying what it has to say.<br><br>I’m definitely not saying that it is perfect, but compared to the capitalist hellfest that most of the rest of the internet is, it is the one major holdout of a highly successful, non-commercial community.<br><br>And while you can criticize the Wikimedia-foundation for a lot of things, one thing remains true to this day: They do not interfere with content unless forced to by a court and are very transparent about it, when that happens. The actual content is decided by a community that everyone can join.<br><br>And as a result you get articles like “</span><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surveillance_capitalism" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Surveillance capitalism</a>” with open sections that contain statements like this: </p><blockquote>. However, as capitalism focuses on expanding the proportion of social life that is open to data collection and data processing, this can have significant implications for vulnerability and control of society, as well as for privacy.</blockquote><span>Somehow I cannot imagine something like that in Microsoft Encarta…<br><br>And once you replace Wikipedia with AI-garbage, you would have taken one of the last independent information-sources with significant reach of the internet.<br><br>And again: Wikipedia isn’t perfect, but it might literally be the best thing we have!</span><p></p>
