Kerr Avonsen (she/her)<p>I've just blocked my ISP from sending me SMS messages, considering that they ALSO send me email at the same time. Maybe there is some setting somewhere on their website where I could turn it off, but, y'know, my time is valuable, so I've just blocked them on my phone. I do NOT fricken need to know, immediately, on my phone with a little tinkle, that my invoice is ready for my viewing, especially since I don't actually have to DO anything about it, since it's paid by automatic debit.</p><p>Yes, there are getting to be fewer and fewer things up with which I am willing to put. Call it the privilege of old age. (Being three months away from 60 counts as "old age", yes?)</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/TurnOffNotifications" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TurnOffNotifications</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/Notifications" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Notifications</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/Interruptions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Interruptions</span></a></p>
richard<p><strong>On Notifications and E-mails</strong></p><p><span class=""><span class="">Reading Time: </span> <span class=""> &lt; 1</span> <span class="">minute</span></span></p><p>Recently I noticed that with the iPhone 14 checking notifications is a challenge. You have to really want to see notifications for them to show up. In some cases I find that they are automatically bypassed by the current iOS. </p><p>Whilst this might seem problematic, most notifications, in 2025 are a waste of time. They are duplicates from Strava, Linkedin, Udemy and plenty of other sites. If these sites are sticky enough, then we will see the notifications on the site, while we're sitting at a computer, so we don't need them to appear in our phone notifications.</p><p>As if this wasn't bad enough, if you check e-mails every so often, you find that almost all e-mails are the same notifications that were sent by the same apps to your phone. You're getting duplicates, if we don't count the notifications you get straight from the app.</p><p>Out of four hundred e-mails plenty will be from an active project on github, others will be from Strava, and yet more will be Linkedin Spam.</p><p>On mobile phones, and in e-mail it is easy to get to hundreds of notifications, if not per day, then definitely per week. That's why phones are silent. If we got notifications for every junk message from apps, then we would annoy everyone around us, including ourselves.</p><p><strong>And Finally</strong></p><p>In my eyes a successful website or app is one that doesn't require notifications or e-mails to get your attention. A good app or site is one that we visit more than once per day. It is one that requires no e-mails and notifications.</p><p>E-mails and notifications that replace RSS have little value. E-mails that encourage conversations are worthwhile.</p><p><a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://www.main-vision.com/richard/blog/tag/duplication/" target="_blank">#duplication</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://www.main-vision.com/richard/blog/tag/e-mail/" target="_blank">#eMail</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://www.main-vision.com/richard/blog/tag/noise/" target="_blank">#noise</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://www.main-vision.com/richard/blog/tag/notifications/" target="_blank">#notifications</a></p>

Dendrobatus Azureus<p>Remember our Open Source Software, OSS? One Open Source program that I run is Fork Client which is Telegram Open Source fork.</p><p>Read here what Google does ever since version 8.0 of Android Oreo. This research connects real names to the various companies that form the VexTrio ecosystem. It begins with the origin story—how a group of Italians launched a successful spam and dating business. Over time, VexTrio expanded its operations into malicious adtech and online scams. For over a decade, the group employed deceptive tactics to defraud countless innocent internet users. These illegitimate gains funded the extravagant lifestyles of VexTrio’s key figures—who, despite increasing scrutiny, have yet to be fully stopped.</p><p>We’re deeply grateful to all the contributors who helped us reach this research milestone, especially <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://infosec.exchange/@rmceoin" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>rmceoin</span></a></span> and Tord from [Qurium](<a href="https://www.qurium.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">qurium.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>).</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/dns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dns</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/threatintel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>threatintel</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/threatintelligence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>threatintelligence</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cybercrime" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cybercrime</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cybersecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cybersecurity</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/infoblox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infoblox</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/infobloxthreatintel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infobloxthreatintel</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/adtech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>adtech</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/maliciousadtech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maliciousadtech</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/advertising" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>advertising</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/affiliates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>affiliates</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/scam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>scam</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/notifications" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>notifications</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/pushnotifications" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pushnotifications</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/tds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tds</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/trafficdistributionsystem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trafficdistributionsystem</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/spam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>spam</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/italy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>italy</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/russia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>russia</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/belarus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>belarus</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/dating" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dating</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/clickallow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>clickallow</span></a></p>
