I saw that Mike Lee of Utah mentioned that this land is little more than "billboards along a highway" and I want you to make it incredibly obvious that this is untrue. </p><p>Please use your social media accounts to solicit pictures of the land this Republican Administration plans to sell off so that everyone across the nation can see the national treasures this Republican Administration wants to sell.</p><p>While this Republican Administration might not like science, we know that the trees and forests up for sale are a critical part of the ecosystem of the west. The forests on mountains and hillsides are critical to the formation of rain in the west, and should be preserved for all people, not sold off to private owners. </p><p>The west needs forests more than the rich need another tax break. These lands belong to the American people for a very practical, but little appreciated reason -- they help us make and preserve our water. </p><p>The lands proposed for sale in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California are part of one of four remaining boreal forests in the world. The water needed by the entire western half of the United States depends in part on the way this boreal forest interacts with the moisture of the Pacific Ocean. The more inland forests -- from Montana and Wyoming down to Arizona and New Mexico -- have a similar effect, interacting with passing weather systems to help make much needed rain in dry areas.</p><p>These forests belong to the American people. Do not let them be sold off to the highest bidder.
