Guillaume Louvel<p>Why do I get *pulseaudio* as a dependency when installing <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/Matplotlib" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Matplotlib</span></a> with <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/Micromamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Micromamba</span></a>...?</p><p><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/Conda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Conda</span></a></p>
Jörn Franke<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://ciberlandia.pt/@villares" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>villares</span></a></span> I would not use miniconda - use <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/mamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mamba</span></a> (nearly 100% conda compatible) - faster and free package manager - works perfectly fine with conda-forge <a href="https://mamba.readthedocs.io/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">mamba.readthedocs.io/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> and for CI/CD or embedded environments there is <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/micromamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>micromamba</span></a> <a href="https://mamba.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user_guide/micromamba.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mamba.readthedocs.io/en/latest</span><span class="invisible">/user_guide/micromamba.html</span></a></p>
Robyn<p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Conda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Conda</span></a> is still driving me crazy.🙈 <br>The confusion is actually perfect...<br>Conda is actually a package manager. <br>But then there is also <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Anaconda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Anaconda</span></a> and <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Miniconda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Miniconda</span></a> as package managers. </p><p>Both Miniconda and Anaconda install conda. <br>Then there is <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/mamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mamba</span></a> A reimplementation of Conda in C++. There is also <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Micromamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Micromamba</span></a>...but no <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Minimamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Minimamba</span></a>...</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/bioinformatics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bioinformatics</span></a> </p><p>🥴 🐍</p>
Guillaume Louvel<p>Wow <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/micromamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>micromamba</span></a> looks seriously buggy, anyone using it here?</p><p>I just cancelled an environment removal by answering `n` interactively, and it deleted it anyway! 😬 </p><p>This and the fact that I cannot get <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/Nextflow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nextflow</span></a> to use the java libraries installed in the environment.</p>
matt<p>uv: Python packaging in Rust<br><a href="https://astral.sh/blog/uv" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">astral.sh/blog/uv</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br>They're aiming to build a cargo-like experience for <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a>. That will be welcome and I'm hopeful.</p><p>It does bring up a question for me though. I primarily use <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/conda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>conda</span></a> (via <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/micromamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>micromamba</span></a>) for managing projects. How's that going to work with uv, and not?</p>
Lulu Powerful<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@eliocamp" class="u-url mention">@<span>eliocamp</span></a></span> Your comments are timely indeed! I&#39;ve just spent last night fixing a mess I created by trying different env managers... and bloody reticulate!</p><p>It all started because <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/conda" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>conda</span></a> was slow, so I installed <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/micromamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>micromamba</span></a> and loved it. But reticulate (which I need for uni) wouldn&#39;t acknowledge the env. So I tried <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/mamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>mamba</span></a> and promptly broke my system. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Cmd" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Cmd</span></a> died, and so did <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a>, <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>python</span></a> and <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/neovim" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>neovim</span></a>. My entire rig. </p><p>I can laugh about it now, because I still haven&#39;t slept and I&#39;ve lost it. Haha!</p>

I couldn&#39;t get the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a> &#39;reticulate&#39; package to acknowledge my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/micromamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>micromamba</span></a> environment so I decided to try <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/mamba" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>mamba</span></a> instead. Maybe I was too reckless with chopping and changing tools, because my system became corrupted and I had to return to a recent snapshot of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>windows</span></a>. It was messy and it took me all night to fix. </p><p>That was... an adventure.</p>
