A friend of mine had WA and approx 75 apps on his phone. I asked him for Threema or Signal. He said: “One more app?” 75 or 76… I don’t get it. “I only use Threema because of you.” Thanks. Couple of years later: “How many of your contacts are on Threema now?” “More than I thought.” Same with Signal. Don’t want to get into a discussion here about which is better. They are both compared to WA.

𝘄𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗲Оказывается у <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Briar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Briar</a> помимо общеизвестного приложения есть ещё и четыре странных: Earth, Mercury, Venus, Mars. Все весят ~3.5 МБ примерно. Все 4 не пробовал, пока хватило одного из них - Earth. Испробовал там кажется всё, кроме установки этого скриншота креста на второй Андроид и тогда повключать снова там всякие вайфай, БТ и GPS... Почему говорю "скриншота"? Да потому, что это приложение и вело себя как скриншот, а ощущал себя в качестве дурака, включающего на девайсе разные службы и тыча в этот скриншот пальцем в надежде, что чудо всё-таки произойдёт. Но чуда на моем <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Android</a> 10 не произошло, немного поржал и удалил эти странные обои. В 2010-х годах много пользователей регалось на xmpp-серверах (ну в jabber) именно для того, чтобы подключить несколько транспортов в разные IM-системы. И тем самым убрать необходимость держать запущенными одновременно три клиента разных IM-систем. Именно этот механизм шлюзов — транспортов — и предлагается задействовать, включив обратно ту часть XMPP, которую WhatsApp сейчас на использует. Фактически аналогична или завязана на механизмы федерирования xmpp-серверов между собой.
