I was using #zsh for the last many years, and I have configured EVERYTHING the way I like.

- Auto-completions
- Per-directory history
- #McFly for Ctrl-R quick search
- Aliases

Now I'm moving to #nushell and I want to configure everything in the same way. But, per-directory history is either broken or non-existent: github.com/nushell/nushell/dis

People do not use per-directory history? This is AWESOME, every time you switch directory you have your entire relevant history at your fingertips. I recommend everyone to try it.

zsh has per-directory-history plugin (i was using oh-my-zsh)
#atuin has even better search, you can filter by workspace/directory/session/...

Atuin has solved missing/broken per-directory history partially, but god I want this to be default in all shells.

Eigentlich wollte ich, weil es mir gerade wieder mal als sehr praktisch auffiel, auf das schöne Dienstprogramm McFly - github.com/cantino/mcfly - für die Kommandozeilenhistorie hinweisen. Eingegebene Befehle werden in einer Datenbank gesammelt und lassen sich mittels [Strg][R] im Kontext der zuletzt verwendeten Befehle und des aktuellen Verzeichnisses durchsuchen. Da kommt zielsicher Nützliches wieder zum Vorschein.
Habe ich aber vor rund 8 Monaten schon mal getan. Na gut, dann halt nicht. 🙂

atuin kind of does this, but I prefer similar another tool #mcfly :

I tried atuin, and it's nice, but I like this better because of UI and "suggestions are prioritized in real time with a small neural network.".

That's bit of magic that makes the difference.

Seit Jahren auf meinen Rechnern guter Partner bei der Suche nach verschollenen Kommandos aus besseren bzw. vergessenen Zeiten …

Aus der Selbstbeschreibung des Projekts: „McFly replaces your default ctrl-r shell history search with an intelligent search engine that takes into account your working directory and the context of recently executed commands. McFly's suggestions are prioritized in real time with a small neural network."

(Wie ich gerade selbst erst sehe, soll mit der Version 0.9.0 das ab Kernel 6.2 ggf. erforderliche Aktivieren von TIOCSTI mittels dev.tty.legacy_tiocsti=1 nicht mehr notwendig sein. Gute Sache.)
