So, #Perseverance going out on a limb wasn't an accident, but was due to a strong desire to closely examine that rock at the edge of the cliff.

Edited: Here's what has just arrived from Mars, showing the robotic arm abrading the rock. This must be the most awkward abrasion in the #Mars2020 mission, so far 😬

Hard to believe someone would intentionally place a $2.75 billion rover that close to the edge of a cliff; the front right wheel appears to be less than 0.5m from the edge.

#Perseverance's team have been overly cautious with the rover so far, and the condition of its "tires" is a testament to their very careful handling of the hardware.

So there must be a reason for what we see in this cross-eyed 3D composition.

Is that solidified lava? Molten regolith created by the Jezero meteor impact? IANAG, but I suspect even those who are are scratching their heads at present.

This has never been done before by a rover on Mars!

#Perseverance at the very edge of the Broom's Point cliff. Literally, a #CliffHanger .

@sharponlooker
This is the rock, about 5.5cm wide, ~1.5m horizontal distance from the Mastcam-Z camera, which is tilted 52° down.
