Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>After much trial and tribulation (failed updates, lack of support, ect.), a few more <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/sbc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SBC</span></a> have been regulated to collecting dust today ... They will most likely not be remembered fondly or at all:<br><br><a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a><br><a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/orangepizero2w" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OrangePiZero2W</span></a><br><a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/raspberrypizero2w" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPiZero2W</span></a><br><a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/milkvmars" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MilkVMars</span></a></p>
Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>I am still tinkering with the <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a>. I think I got a good understanding of <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/jwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JWM</span></a> and <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/compton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Compton</span></a>. Also had to play with a bunch of web browsers to see what works best and is fully functional (so that I can <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/toot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>toot</span></a>); so far <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/epiphany" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Epiphany</span></a> has worked the best on this low powered machine (but just barely 😬).</p>
Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>Super Tux Kart at 2 FPS?! Sign me up!<br><br>This <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a> is punching past its weight class :BlobCatBlepClose:</p>

Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>This is peak computing :BlobCatParty:<br><br>(<a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/phanpy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Phanpy</span></a> in a <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/falkon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Falkon</span></a> window on <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/jwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JWM</span></a> all running on <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/arm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ARM</span></a> on a <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a>. )</p>
Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>Here are how things are looking so far on the <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/jwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JWM</span></a> setup on the <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mangopiquad</span></a>.<br><br>I have to say, I have actually been enjoying this process.<br><br><a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/neofetch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Neofetch</span></a> <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/conky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Conky</span></a></p>
Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>So in my hubris I decided to move from stable to testing on the <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mangopiquad</span></a>. Well, in short it broke all my configs or what not.<br><br>Did a fresh <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> install as well as <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/jwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JWM</span></a> and <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/compton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Compton</span></a>. The transparency effects are now better looking things are running smoother.<br><br>More tweaks will be needed, but things are getting there and I am getting more practice with configs.</p>
Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>Okay, I think I have <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/jwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JWM</span></a> set up as close to ideal (for now) as I can get it. I installed <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/compton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Compton</span></a> for transparency effects; this upped my memory use on the <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mangopiquad</span></a> but it was worth it. I could still run <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/clementine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Clementine</span></a>, <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/kpat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kpat</span></a>, and <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/dillo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dillo</span></a> at the same time, so I am good. :Debian: <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/armhf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>armhf</span></a></p>
Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>Since the kiddo is home sick, it's time to learn some <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/jwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JWM</span></a> in the down times. So far it has been pretty straight forward. I will say running it on a <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mangopiquad</span></a> (<a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/armhf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>armhf</span></a>) has made it trickier to set up; most tutorials/videos I have found are ppl running JWM on <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/x86" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>X86</span></a>.<br><br>So far with <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/clementine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Clementine</span></a>, <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/btop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Btop</span></a>, and <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/kpat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kpat</span></a> running I am on average around 65% ram use, 20 to 40% cpu use, and temps averaging around 69 (nice) freedom units.</p>
Just… Josh :BlobCatTrashed:<p>Some techie updates:<br><br>The <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/good" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Good</span></a>:<br>Switched the 2015 <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/macbook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MacBook</span></a> over to vanilla <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> from <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/silverblue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Silverblue</span></a>. I kept running into issues with programs freezing and a few just not working. Troubleshooting was just too much of a hassle on Silverblue so I made the very easy switch.<br><br>The <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/bad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bad</span></a>:<br>After lots of tinkering with the <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/mangopiquad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a>, I think it is pretty much dead to me. It has done the heinous act of no longer being fun. So it is off to a drawer to collect dust (which is a fate less worse than the e-recycling bin like a few other <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/sbc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SBC</span></a> met)<br><br>The <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/ugly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ugly</span></a>:<br>My place of employment has forced me over to <a href="https://polymaths.social/tags/windows11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows11</span></a> 🤢🤮🪦</p>
Josh :t_blink:<p>I may do some more tweaking in the future, but I am pretty happy with how things turned out on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/TrinityDE" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TrinityDE</span></a>. </p><p>So far it has been a pretty usable lil system. Web browsing is on par with old dial-up. Besides that, after an app opens they seem to be quite responsive/snappy. </p><p>Now I am glad I <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/borked" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>borked</span></a> my MangoPi Quad <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SBC" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SBC</span></a> as I do not think I would have looked into the Trinity DE.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Arm" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Arm</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MangoPiQuad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Neofetch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Neofetch</span></a></p>
Josh :t_blink:<p>I installed the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/TrinityDE" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TrinityDE</span></a> and I have to say it gives <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/LXDE" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LXDE</span></a> so tight competition. At idle my ram use is lower than LXDE and when using native apps the ram use stays fairly low. </p><p>As for look, Trinity just looks better has more customization options, AND has <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Snap" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Snap</span></a> integration. </p><p>I will post a screenshot once I am done tweaking things to my liking.<br /><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SBC" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SBC</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MangoPiQuad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Debian</span></a></p>
Josh :t_blink:<p>I have lessened the amount of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/jank" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>jank</span></a> with the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MangoPiQuad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a>. I just installed a dual fan heatsink; fans are now secured unlike the previous on that was just chillin. Here is the before and after. </p><p>Currently both fans are blowing up. I might tweak it a bit to see if I can get the temps a bit lower. On average running at 48 degrees which is 2 above the larger single fan. </p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/sbc" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sbc</span></a></p>
Josh :t_blink:<p>While I was at it, I checked to see if <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fastfetch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fastfetch</span></a>, <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/hyfetch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hyfetch</span></a>, and if <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/newfetch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>newfetch</span></a> were available in the basic/standard repos at this time. In short, no.</p><p>So for the time being, it is <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Neofetch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Neofetch</span></a> on the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MangoPiQuad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a></p>
Josh :t_blink:<p>I did some different dock testing on the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MangoPiQuad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a>. I am running <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Debian</span></a> 12 with Openbox. So far my base RAM usage with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/CairoDock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CairoDock</span></a> is around 30 to 32% with a basic dock and system monitoring widget.</p><p>I tried <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Plank" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Plank</span></a> for a hot minute. Plank doesn’t have widgets like Cairo, so I lost the system monitoring function. I paired Plank with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Conky" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Conky</span></a> and was averaging 40 to 44% RAM use.</p><p>I looked into <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Wbar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Wbar</span></a> but that will be for another day. I too tired to do text configurations.</p>
Josh :t_blink:<p>I spent a good chunk of the day slimming down my Debian install on the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MangoPiQuad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MangoPiQuad</span></a>. I moved from (and uninstalled) <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/XFCE" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>XFCE</span></a> to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/OpenBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OpenBox</span></a>. I wholesale uninstalled many preinstalled apps (such as Libre Office, Emacs, Bluez, and much, much more).</p><p>I installed <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/CairoDock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CairoDock</span></a> and <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Nitrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Nitrogen</span></a> I gotta say, it is running smooth. I am even able to run <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MinecraftPiReborn" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MinecraftPiReborn</span></a> with out maxing out the CPU or RAM! </p><p>All in all, its been a good day. </p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SBC" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SBC</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Neofetch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Neofetch</span></a></p>
