mikoto<p>New comic: "Naki×Nagi" volume one.<br>In a high school with a boardinghouse, Nagisa is in love with a boy classmate and Nakika supports her from behind the scenes with some supernatural skills. Nagi seems carefreely active and endlessly cheerful, but has inner troubles of youth. Naki is a mysterious and awkward girl, but always stays sincere to her only friend.<br>Clear and soft atmosphere of the island lives; heartwarming and humorous friendship of the contrasting girls with shocking background stories; exquisitely technical and expressively constructed artwork by Maki Keigo who ever serialized "Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie". Definitely the great work.</p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/%E6%BC%AB%E7%94%BB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>漫画</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/mangareview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mangareview</span></a></p>

MDMRN<p>New Manga Read - Bomba!</p><p>Legendary manga creator Osamu Tezuka wrote the single volume story Bomba! in 1970. It's...a giant trigger warning.</p><p>The story involves an abused teenage boy who becomes obsessed with his middle school teacher and summons the ghost of a horse (Bomba) from his father's days in the Japanese military during World War II to kill those he hates. </p><p>When he realizes that he was delusional, he hates himself. Bomba comes for him...</p><p>It's a lot. Also, ghost horse murders of hundreds of people isn't really delved into as our main character learns to love himself and gets a happy ending.</p><p>Uhm...no thanks. </p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReview</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Mangagram" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mangagram</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaPost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaPost</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaRecommendation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaRecommendation</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/InstaManga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InstaManga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaLover" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaLover</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReader</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/AmReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmReading</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/LibraryFinds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryFinds</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/OsamuTezuka" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OsamuTezuka</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Bomba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bomba</span></a></p>

Book<p>Manga Review<br>===<br>River's Edge by Okazaki Kyoko</p><p>CW: Casual violence, sexual violence, queerphobia, disordered eating, knife play, death, SA, DV, high sexuality</p><p>I finished this manga last night. I should not have read it before bed. *Bad juju*</p><p>It tells the story of high schoolers going through life crises at pace. The economic situation in their small town has left scars on both them and the town itself. There is a feeling of accepted depravity and hopelessness.</p><p>There is a genre of video games I call desperation survivals. This War of Mine is one, Life is Strange 2 is another. Differing play styles and approaches for sure, but the emotional core is one of decline.</p><p>This book is that: A vivid look at how thin and fragile civility is, and what happens beyond it.</p><p>I'm not sure if I liked it or not, but I've thought about little else since. </p><p>A powerful affect. And apparently the mangaka is just like this. Most all her works are in a similar vein.</p><p><a href="https://beige.party/tags/MangaReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReview</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Manga</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/RiversEdge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RiversEdge</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/OkazakiKyoko" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OkazakiKyoko</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/KyokoOkazaki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KyokoOkazaki</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/ThisWarOfMine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThisWarOfMine</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/LifeIsStrange2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LifeIsStrange2</span></a></p>

MDMRN<p>New Read - Little Witch Academia (Series)</p><p>Last week on vacation I read my new copies of the Little Witch Academia manga. For those who have never seen the anime from Studio Trigger, it follows Akko, a teenage girl who is not from a witch family, going to school to learn magic. She's super excited and comes blindly from outside of witch culture.</p><p>It's a fish out of water story. It's a story of never giving up. It's also very fun.</p><p>The manga adapts much of the anime directly with some minor additions. mikoto<p>Informed and inspired by the followee (Thanks!), I bought the comic "Edomae Elf" (Edo-era style elf / Otaku Elf).<br>This work features a shy elf woman who is worshiped as the divine body of a shrine but only to enjoy indoor hobbies in Tokyo.</p><p>The virtues of this comic are:<br>- Highly sophisticated production of the panels arrangement. The construction of the frames is so effective and well organized.<br>- The pictures are clear and distinct with vivid face expressions and bold deformations. The lighting and shadows are delicately controlled and emotionally rich.<br>- The speech lines are funny and the use of rhetoric are polished.</p><p>This is the fourth serialization of the brilliant cartoonist Higuchi Akihiko (樋口彰彦).<br>Okay, I will buy all the remaining volumes tomorrow.</p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/%E6%BC%AB%E7%94%BB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>漫画</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/mangareview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mangareview</span></a></p>
mikoto<p>New comic: "good-bye my mini skirt" (さよならミニスカート) volume four.<br>The main character retired from stage activities after she had been assaulted by someone. Now she attends a high school disguised as a man, but she is still forced to face various kinds of injustice of the society.<br>This manga clearly features the inner dignity, self-determination, and (difficulty of) choice for goodness of young people, especially women. Such a serious and challenging theme is unusual as current girls comics, and this work attracts a lot of attention, though the some elements of the story seem to be a bit stereotypical (e.g., an idol team, a vulgarly prying journalist, sexual trafficking circle, etc.)</p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/%E6%BC%AB%E7%94%BB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>漫画</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/mangareview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mangareview</span></a></p>
MDMRN<p>New Read - Cat Man</p><p>Okay, so I read the premise of Cat Man and on a lark pre-ordered it for myself. I am so glad I did.</p><p>The series follows Hachisuke and his fellow anthropomorphic cats in a world where they coexist with humans and are entirely objectified by humans. Hachisuke just wants to work as a publishing editor in a world where cats like him generally go into modeling. And are touched. By everyone.</p><p>This single volume story touches on racism, sexism, how people treat other's bodies.</p><p>It's well done and so much better than I could have expected. Definitely recommend.</p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReview</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Mangagram" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mangagram</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaPost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaPost</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaRecommendation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaRecommendation</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/InstaManga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InstaManga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaLover" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaLover</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReader</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/AmReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmReading</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/CatMan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CatMan</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/NekoNingen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NekoNingen</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/%E3%81%AD%E3%81%93%E3%81%AB%E3%82%93%E3%81%92%E3%82%93" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ねこにんげん</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Parari" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Parari</span></a></p>
MDMRN<p>New Read - Otaku Elf, Volume 9</p><p>I think I say the same thing about every volume of Otaku Elf. They fly by. Not a lot happens. It's sllife of life about a geeky elf who is the local deity for a small temple and her miko (Shrine Maiden). ach volume has some random history stuff about the Edo period of Japanese history lesson mixed in with modern slice of life.</p><p>It's chill.</p><p>Anyway, wanted to share this one moment in the volume cause it's so funny and...kind of relatable.</p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReview</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Mangagram" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mangagram</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaPost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaPost</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaRecommendation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaRecommendation</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/InstaManga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InstaManga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaLover" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaLover</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReader</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/AmReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmReading</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/AkihikoHiguchi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AkihikoHiguchi</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/HiguchiAkihiko" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HiguchiAkihiko</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/OtakuElf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OtakuElf</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/%E6%B1%9F%E6%88%B8%E5%89%8D%E3%82%A8%E3%83%AB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>江戸前エル</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/EdomaeElf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EdomaeElf</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bookstodon</span></a></p>
MDMRN<p>New read - Hauntress </p><p>Once again, I found a single volume horror manga at my library to check out. This one is from 1993 and entitled Hauntress.</p><p>This story is based on an urban legend from Japan about a tall woman who knocks on the door to hunt young men. I'd previously read "Dragon Head," a 10 volume serial horror manga from the same mangaka (Minetaro Mochizuki). </p><p>A lot of jump scares. A lot of eerie moments as this unnamed tall woman stalked our main character. And we had an extremely imperfect lead.</p><p>Solidly done. Definitely spooky vibes.</p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReview</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Mangagram" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mangagram</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaPost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaPost</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaRecommendation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaRecommendation</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/InstaManga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InstaManga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaLover" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaLover</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReader</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/AmReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmReading</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/LibraryFinds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryFinds</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Hauntress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hauntress</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MinetaroMochizuki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MinetaroMochizuki</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/ZashikiOnna" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ZashikiOnna</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/%E5%BA%A7%E6%95%B7%E5%A5%B3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>座敷女</span></a></p>
Book<p>Manga review<br>===<br>Sanctuary by Sho Fumimura and Ryoichi Ikegami<br>===</p><p>Two Japanese boys survive the Cambodian killing fields and return to Japan. They make a solemn promise: To change the world for the better.</p><p>Through a game of rock, paper, scissors, they decide who is going to study politics and work himself into the Diet, the other is going to leave school early and join the yakuza. Both will rise through the ranks of their respective organisations and gain power through attraction and competence, and not brutality and dominance. </p><p>This story takes us all over the East, and it pulls all the right emotional heartstrings. Women are largely objects, foreigners are dumb (unless they're important), and the schemes and politicking is a little too convoluted. But the emotional core of the story rings true.</p><p>This is not an easy read.</p><p>CW: Power plays, knife play, gun violence, non-con, objectification, belittlement, heavy substance use, death, destruction, street-level violence. <br><a href="https://beige.party/tags/Manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Manga</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/MangaReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReview</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Sanctuary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Sanctuary</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/ShoFumimura" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ShoFumimura</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/RyochiIkegami" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RyochiIkegami</span></a></p>
MDMRN<p>Some of the manga was very well done, interesting story. Other parts were...just so cheesy. Some of the photos I took in my first post are some examples of that.</p><p>The manga was one part horror one part thought experiment by the author, exploring the idea of a potential massive outbreak of extraterrestrial fungi.</p><p>There were some moments of AHH, body horror with the mushrooms consuming humans. But overall, not bad from a gross horror perspective, if that's an issue for you.</p><p>Overall, glad I read it. Occasionally cheesy, overall interesting. Won't read again.</p><p><a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Manga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Manga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReview</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Mangagram" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mangagram</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaPost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaPost</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaRecommendation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaRecommendation</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/InstaManga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InstaManga</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaLover" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaLover</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MangaReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MangaReader</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/AmReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmReading</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/Bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/LibraryFinds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryFinds</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/UFOMushroomInvasion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UFOMushroomInvasion</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/%E4%BE%B5%E7%95%A5%E5%86%86%E7%9B%A4%E3%82%AD%E3%83%8E%E3%82%B3%E3%83%B3%E3%82%AC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>侵略円盤キノコンガ</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/MarinaShirakawa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MarinaShirakawa</span></a> <a href="https://urusai.social/tags/ShirakawaMarina" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ShirakawaMarina</span></a></p>
