I have a newsletter — Venetian Stories about the history of Venice — with a couple of hundred recipients.

For some time, I have managed that with a free WordPress plugin. One of those with a PRO version, and every update shifted some functionality over to the paid version.

When I wanted to move the newsletter from my History Walks Venice site to a dedicated domain, there was no way of migrating the plugin data without moving to the PRO version. Several functions I had used for a long time, were no only available for payment.

Confronted with these futile complications, I decided to return to basics.

The newsletters would be sent from my mail application of choice, as HTML emails, with all the recipients in the BCC field.

Anyone here have experience with #mailinabox or #spampd? I am trying to integrate #sauserpref into Roundcube. Roundcube side works and the spamassassin/spampd side works from the command line. But, incoming emails go through without using the SQL preferences. Posted more details here:

@akop I gave up this very move (to host most of my services) years ago. Email was the most frustrating thing among all the other services. I soon discovered that you must build and keep something called "reputation" for your email domain otherwise all your messages will be marked as spam by the major players. May be times have changed and things are smoother now...

Good afternoon #selfhosted and #foss , I've done the unthinkable -- I've been self hosting my e-mail on a VPS using #mailinabox (https://mailinabox.email/) for the past three months without any issues, using a secondary domain I own. I'm thinking about moving my primary email domain over from Tutanota to my MIAB server. Have I just been lucky so far or is the doom and gloom of self hosting email just an overreaction?
