And it has happened with every distro I used with this laptop (<a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a>, <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a>, <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/EndeavourOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EndeavourOS</span></a>).</p><p>I suspect is related to <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/pipewire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pipewire</span></a>-pulse, but I'm not sure.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a></p>
Carl von Lesquereux<p>I like <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Lollypop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Lollypop</span></a> for managing my music on <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GNOME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNOME</span></a>, but for the love of $deity, it is slow af when syncing with my phone via USB and using <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/MTP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MTP</span></a>. If I make a small change in one of my playlists, it seems to sync the whole content of the phone again, not just that one playlist.</p><p>Sadly, there isn't another app with that feature. Maybe <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Cantata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cantata</span></a>, but I haven't tried it yet. And <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/StrawberryPlayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>StrawberryPlayer</span></a> is not an option, it's even worse.</p>

I am thinking of installing the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/flatpak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flatpak</span></a> version to see if that fixes it, but then that would seem odd to not use pureos version. It sometimes shows my rooms and contacts double in the left sidebar. Though I have been impressed when using my <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/librem5" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>librem5</span></a> and <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/postmarketos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>postmarketos</span></a> version of the app as I am new to it. It's a bit rough but seems to have come a long way.</p><p>Overall the device is pretty snappy, I have 6 apps open as I write this and it is doing just fine.</p><p><a href="https://qoto.org/tags/cheese" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cheese</span></a> takes photos and videos just fine. I tried to get the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gnome</span></a> "snapshot" "camera" app running but it doesn't automatically detect the cameras. I am not sure if this is because it is a flatpak or not. I enabled the permissions in <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/flatseal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flatseal</span></a></p><p>I strongly recommend a wireless bluetooth mouse. I am using a inexpensive logitech m535 and it works great. Wifi, no complaints there.</p><p>I do think that the default apps in the pureos repos should either be updated or omitted as the default software source, suchas the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/libreoffice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>libreoffice</span></a> package when intalled has a theme that makes it look like it's from the 1990s whereas the flatpak version is very nice.</p><p>I've been watching <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/linuxmobile" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linuxmobile</span></a> over the last decade and I am presently surprised how far purism and the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> and <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/foss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>foss</span></a> people have come. Excellent work @ all. I think this is a great device to do development on as it runs much faster than my <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/pinephone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pinephone</span></a> and even my librem5. And it's not qemu, and the device seems easy enough to reflash -- one thing I especially like about the librem5 aswell when compared to other processes like fumbling through pmbootstrap to reflash <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>android</span></a> to <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/lineageos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lineageos</span></a> <br>I am still trying to figure out what the best music app for this device is -- I do like <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/lollypop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lollypop</span></a></p><p>Internal sound quality isn't amazing, but I wouldn't call it bad either when comparing to some of the other small form factor devices with mobile speakers I've owned. It's fine as a fallback but you are better off with a bluetooth headset to complement it or a tiny portable bluetooth speaker.</p><p>Some options like "scale apps to fullscreen" are not easy to find so I had to set a few options in dconf-editor. I think there is a app called "Mobile Settings" that might have it. Not all apps have the dialogs constrained inside the screen dimensions like the Geany Open dialog for example (which is understandable as this app hasn't targeted mobile or tablet yet as far as I know.)</p><p>I use the device to watch online videos, for instant messaging via matrix via <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/element" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>element</span></a> / <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/schildichat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>schildichat</span></a> and it does just fine. I haven't tested it with <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/zoom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zoom</span></a> or anything but from what I've seen I'm sure it'd do just fine.</p><p>Epiphany "Install Website as App" is a great feature -- I have several I've added to my App Menu, Epiphany has always had trouble though being on the lean side. I do wish that I had this option on <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>firefox</span></a> ESR, in any case I've just switched to <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/librewolf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>librewolf</span></a> again as I prefer it.</p><p>I am interesting in comparing phosh to <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/gnomemobile" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gnomemobile</span></a> as I might want to use that instead someday. I have used <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/plasmamobile" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plasmamobile</span></a> and it's hard to put into words in some ways I like it more than phosh, and in other ways I am just not used to the apps -- some apps are just better out of box like their notes app, I like that they have a flashlight button in their top menu. Their UX scaling and fluidity is really good. I am glad that everything is doing such a good job and friendly competition will drive each side to keep improving.</p><p>I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this device on day 1, but I am glad I did. And as I don't have a laptop or like laptops or conventional smartphones very much for me this device is kindof a big deal that I can do basic <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> and <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/it" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>it</span></a> things on the go along with communication and such without all the headache of android, ios or windows which is not a option for me as linux is just better.</p><p>If you think about the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>privacy</span></a> space -- the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/libremboot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>libremboot</span></a> <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/codeboot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>codeboot</span></a> is pretty revolutionary to start to see these kinds of firmwares in all in one hardware. And of course this automatic disk encryption is a nice bonus though not something I need as a enthusiast unless maybe I want to travel with the device and protect my data.</p><p>People will have different criticisms, and opinions, and I may be easy-going but overall my opinion is that I am pleased with the utility the device offers and I think any rough edges will only get better in the software over time. I may switch the default distro eventually to do some more research and exploring in the linux mobile space -- but it's a little unclear who the big names are worth checking out. I did postmarketos for a while but I feel like the QA is a little all over the place and their package manager is a little difficult to use when I want to check the available software versions, and the phone space is such a mess to try to document and navigate if you are trying to use a previously android device.</p><p>I'm also interested in how the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/starlabs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>starlabs</span></a> <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/starlite5" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>starlite5</span></a> will compare and contrast in the future. Having used this device I can't recommend something in this size without a keyboard and mouse for more complex usage, I didn't really undestand that the Librem11 keyboard is wired at first, but now that I have figured it out I prefer the simple tech vs overcomplication.</p><p>All in all, I think they have a winner, and I expect to get a lot of use out of this as a side rig to my main desktop. Would buy again, and excited to see all the software improvements coming downstream.</p>
