Yora<p>I am at the end of my wisdom and running out of ideas.</p><p>I need to install a software on <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/Manjaro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Manjaro</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> that just hands me a tar and says I have to compile it from source.</p><p>And I just can't find a single site on the internet that tells me the process to compile from source on Manjaro.</p><p>Does anyone know of a guide to do this? Could I use a guide for Arch? (Assuming I can find one.)</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/linuxhelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxhelp</span></a></p>

Steam is doing two strange things:<br>1: It only opens properly when launched from the terminal. When launched front menu it appears for a plot second ten crashes, and loops doing this.<br>2 (more important): Some games have no sound at all. Some won't even launch saying they can't run without a soundcard. I'm using a Behringer UMC1820, which does work outside of steam and on a few steam games.<br>Help! <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/ubuntustudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubuntustudio</span></a></p>

The federated nature of Mastodon does mean that not all questions get seen as people are spread around a bit and might have their own communities which they do see and the larger swath of them which they do not. Perhaps we should have a federated hashtag like <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Linuxhelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linuxhelp</span></a> or such?</p>

Petrus Hilarius<p>So I've been thinking about helping people get Linux installed on their laptops. I would go for the Debian installer with included firmware blobs by default. I usually just install the default Gnome desktop BUT maybe MATE would be a better choice for people coming from Windoze? Anyone here who regularly sets up noobs with Linux who can share their experience? <a href="https://mastodon.de/tags/unplugtrump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unplugtrump</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.de/tags/linuxnoobs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxnoobs</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.de/tags/linuxhelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxhelp</span></a></p>
