Maxime Van de Moortel has always been fascinated by the large structures of the universe, especially mysterious objects like black holes. In 2019, he earned a PhD at the University of Cambridge in the department of the legendary Stephen Hawking and subsequently held a postdoctoral position at Princeton University. Today, he's an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he investigates the secrets of gravity using differential equations to understand what happens inside these incredible black holes. AnaïsMiss Peregrine et les enfants particuliers, tome 1 de Ransom Riggs aux éditions Bayard : J’ai adoré le fait qu’on mélange l’histoire, la vraie, avec la fiction, pour aborder la persécution des Juifs. C’est fait avec finesse et intelligence, au travers de ces enfants vus comme des freaks. J'avais lu le roman d'Olivier Norek il y a quelques années. Et je n'aime toujours pas la fin. L'idée est pourtant très bonne, ça se lit très bien, ce n'est pas du tout politiquement correct, et c'est ça qui est délectable, mais Norek tombe dans le biais climatique et dans celui d'un techno-futur. La fin de l'histoire, c'est un complexe technique « GreenFuture » dédié à l'« écologie » mais bétonné dans la montagne dans les Pyrénées à proximité de feu le glacier d'Arriel (<a href="https://rue89bordeaux.com/2019/10/epitaphe-pour-larriel-le-dernier-glacier-neo-aquitain-des-pyrenees/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank">https://rue89bordeaux.com/2019/10/epitaphe-pour-larriel-le-dernier-glacier-neo-aquitain-des-pyrenees/</a>). Bétonner les montagnes sous prétexte d'écologie, un joli loupé... YuyineSuite et fin de ce petit focus essai du mois avec deux coups de coeur, un en sociologie/écologie et l’autre en psychologie. J’ai lu Les riches contre la planète. Violence oligarchique et chaos climatique de Monique Pinçon-Charlot chez Textuel. La sociologue spécialisée dans les habitus de la bourgeoisie s’est cette fois penchée sur le lien entre richesse et écocide. Elle démontre, à travers une trentaine de courts chapitres, formant comme un puzzle, le lien entre le chaos climatique et la recherche de profits des oligarques. Elle démontre avec brio et force que l’écologie est sans doute un des sujets qui sépare le plus les classes sociales en pointant du doigt la destruction de notre planète par ceux qui en monétisent les moindres ressources. J’ai relu Je suis épuisé.e de Cathy Assenheim chez DBS (il sort en poche en août chez Marabout) pour préparer une rencontre avec l’autrice. Pour l’histoire, ce titre m’avait permis de prendre conscience de mon burn-out. Le relire fut donc particulier mais m’a encore beaucoup appris sur ce que j’ai vécu, ce qui en reste et les leçons à en tirer. C’est un ouvrage très complet et essentiel sur ce qu’est concrètement le burn-out, tant dans ses aspects psychologiques mais surtout physiques, qui donnent les clés pour comprendre notre épuisement. Avec des explications précises mais toujours accessibles, l’autrice neuropsychologue vous donne toutes les informations nécessaires pour sortir de l’épuisement, de l’alimentation au sommeil en passant par des outils de relaxation. Elle déculpabilise aussi et déjoue les préjugés sur cette situation loin d’être anecdotique. YuyineCe mois-ci j’ai lu pas mal d’essais pour le boulot et j’ai eu vraiment 4 coups de cœur dont j’avais envie de vous parler brièvement le temps de deux posts. On commence avec deux titres d’écologie. Mon préféré fut Plutôt couler en beauté que flotter sans grâce de Corinne Morel Darleux chez Libertalia. Partant du récit de Bernard Moitessier qui refusa de finir une course en bateau qu’il s’apprêtait à remporter, l’autrice nous parle du refus de parvenir, c’est-à-dire refuser les conditions de réussite prônées par nos sociétés pour définir les nôtres, plus en adéquation avec nos valeurs et notamment le respect de la nature. Inspirant, vivifiant, beau, et étonnamment apaisant, ce court essai invite à repenser notre façon d’être à l’heure de l’effondrement écologique. Corinne Morel Darleux nous invite, non pas à baisser les bras, mais à agir, pour rester dignes au présent, et tout tenter même quand les indices sont au rouge et que le monde plonge dans l’absurdité. J’ai aussi lu Printemps silencieux de Rachel Carson chez Wildproject. Dans cet ouvrage, Rachel Carson explique avec clarté, faits expliqués à l’appui, la dangerosité des pesticides sur la faune, la flore, la stérilité des sols mais aussi sur la santé humaine... dans un texte écrit en 1962. Cette publication de ce texte si juste est un constat terrifiant de ce que nous savions et pour lequel rien ou presque n’a été fait. L’écho avec l’actualité est évidemment troublant.
